Hey.

Ususally my auras consist of tingling all over my body or certain parts, nausea, a feeling of falling into myself and feeling limp...and a few other things... but Im also wondering....

When my simple partial seizures hit I get tiwtching and my left side (usually just the leg) will jerk.....

Anyway....since I can feel when the seizure is going to start by the aura signs above, I also start to get very upset if anyone is by my left side.. or anything (ex a dog)

This is partly becuase for whatever reason if someone touches me during my aura it will trigger the jerk........but still wondering if its an aura. I get very aggitated and upset about it....

Like...if Im sat at the meal table with hyperatctive kids who tend to kick you in the leg alot.. or if a dog is playing besid eme, I get angry and push them away....

Just wondering what you guys think,.

Muscle jerking/twitching is another kind of seizure called myoclonic. Do you know if your seizures originate on the right side of your brain? Often that means they will affect the left side of the body.

bah, I meant to say Right side is what twitches... sorry.

the problem .. left temporal lobe is where it showed up on the EEG's....neuro says its simple partial seizures.... not myoclonic.

i dont really know what myoclonic seizures are... sorry...just wondered if this feeling I get is an aura. NOT twitching.. i know that is not an aura...

bah... forget the post.

Doctors are really extremly stupid relaly, I do know they say jerking is myoclonic. Actually there is no such thing as a myoclonic seizure..... its a simple partial seizures. Simple partial seizures are what cuases twitching and jerking.

Doctors are extremly dumb. We should make it mandatory that most wear clown out-fits to work instead of scrubs, that way... we know what to expect when we walk through the door-clowns.

Actually, Vapour

there IS a difference between myoclonic jerks and seizures. This is a quote from the following link:

Myoclonus

Myoclonic jerks may occur alone or in sequence, in a pattern or without pattern. They may occur infrequently or many times each minute. Most often, myoclonus is one of several signs in a wide variety of nervous system disorders such as multiple sclerosis, Parkinson's disease, Alzheimer's disease, Subacute sclerosing panencephalitis and Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease (CJD) and some forms of epilepsy. Some researchers indicate that jerks persistently may even cause early tremors.

In almost all instances in which myoclonus is caused by Central Nervous System (CNS) disease it is preceded by other symptoms; for instance, in CJD it is generally a late-stage clinical feature that appears after the patient has already started to exhibit gross neurological deficits.

Anatomically, myoclonus may originate from lesions of the cortex, subcortex or spinal cord. The presence of myoclonus above the foramen magnum effectively excludes spinal myoclonus, but further localisation relies on further investigation with electromyography (EMG) and electroencephalography (EEG).

AND MORE:

Myoclonic seizures can be described as "jumps." They are caused by rapid contraction and relaxation of the muscles. People without epilepsy can suffer small but similar jerks in the form of hiccups or brief twitches. These are perfectly normal.

In someone with epilepsy, myoclonic seizures cause abnormal movements on both sides of the body at the same time. In reflex epilepsies, myoclonic seizures can be brought on by flashing lights or other environmental triggers (see photosensitive epilepsy).

Emphasis added is mine. I'm just trying to point out that there really is a difference, not trying to be grouchy or anything. And that myoclonic seizures really DO exist :) Trust me, I have them...

Take care!

hey there, I know.

Was extremly frustrated when I posted my posts here on this thread the other day.....

I feel very very trapped by epilepsy right now. I just found out its refractory... and thats why im ellegible for the study (got the consent forms through the post the other day)

Its not like I have tonic clonics.. but I still have break througs on the amount of medication I am.. I am very vervy upset.. I just got back from seeing my therapist.

When I get into UCLA soon for Neuro I am going to ask for a surgical workup....I cant stand the thought of living the rest of my life on all this medication and still breakthroughs.... I gosh....uhh.. words cant express how upset I am...

anyway......love all you guys on here.. your awesome.....this place is a good place to come to and learn and share and feel for one another.

Sorry, Vapour

to hear that it's really gotten to that point. Being told that you're refractory isn't fun. And I can understand why you would be upset.

I just wanted to make sure that you weren't getting any misinformation. :paperbag:

((((HUGS))))

Take care,
