To get a job i want I need a DOT card (NOT a commercial driving licence)stating im in good physical condition to drive a company truck . and because i have epilepsy he said i was automatically disqualified and he could not sign it.. I would be driving a work truck a ford f350 that just hauls my tools and ladder on a rack.. i dont know what to do like i said im not going for a licence. i was driving the same truck at my last job and never needed one but the new co. requires one.. like i said its not like im trying to get a cdl just something that says im fit to drive a co. truck.. grrrrr (Oh I cussed A LOT!! ) and im in AZ. any comments or answers appreciated .

except technically you are not fit to drive a truck.

The possibility of you having a seizure behind the wheel is too great if you have seizures while awake, or if you have not gone a whole year without one.

If your neurologist says its fine for you to drive, then he cannot discriminate against you for your "disability" and not sign it.

Epilepsy is listed as a disqualifying factor for the DOT exam. See page 7 in the application form here: http://www.fmcsa.dot.gov/documents/safetyprograms/Medical-Report.pdf

There may be a process to apply for a waiver of that restriction, but it's not clear from the DOT website. You may want to contact the DOT directly for information on how to do so. It just frustrates me because I'm not trying to drive a tractor trailer. If I were to buy the same truck the dot would not ask for a d.o.t. card no matter the amount I'm hauling or what I'm towing. . Just because its a co. Truck they are going to.
