I wasn't exactly sure where to put this article, as the tub shouldn't be in the Library... so since it can get wet I have put it in the Kitchen :roflmao:

For obvious reasons don't take a bath ... alone. Meaning, let someone know what you are doing. :agree:

Detoxification of your body through bathing is an ancient remedy that anyone can perform in the comfort of their own home. Your skin is known as the third kidney, and toxins are excreted through sweating. A detox bath will assist your body in eliminating toxins, as well as absorbing the minerals and nutrients that are in the water.

Gee - Next time I take a bath I'm going to have to go to the store first!!! Going to have to wait till pay day too, that doesn't look cheap. Guess good old buble bath just doesn't do it any more.

When I was in massage college we were taught how to do detox baths for those of us that wanted to work in spas. However, in biology class we were taught how detox baths don't work & that toxins don't escape through the skin. The only things in sweat are trace mineral, urea & lactate
Sweat contains mainly water. It also contains minerals, lactate, and urea. Mineral composition varies with the individual, their acclimatisation to heat, exercise and sweating, the particular stress source (sauna, etc.), the duration of sweating, and the composition of minerals in the body. An indication of the minerals content is sodium (0.9 gram/liter), potassium (0.2 g/l), calcium (0.015 g/l), magnesium (0.0013 g/l).[10] Also many other trace elements are excreted in sweat, again an indication of their concentration is (although measurements can vary fifteenfold) zinc (0.4 milligrams/liter), copper (0.3–0.8 mg/l), iron (1 mg/l), chromium (0.1 mg/l), nickel (0.05 mg/l), lead (0.05 mg/l).[11][12] Probably many other less-abundant trace minerals leave the body through sweating with correspondingly lower concentrations. Some exogenous organic compounds make their way into sweat as exemplified by an unidentified odiferous "maple syrup" scented compound in several of the species in the mushroom genus Lactarius.[13] In humans, sweat is hypoosmotic relative to plasma.[14]

I read somewhere that "detox" is a marketing ploy & you will never see a detox chapter in a medical book. I checked my medical books from school and they were right.

Proponents of alternative detox have never been able to demonstrate that their treatments actually decrease the level of any specific toxin in the body. Yet such studies would be very simple to conduct: name the toxin, measure its level before and after the treatment and compare the readings. Why do such studies not exist? I suspect it is because the promoters of detox treatments know only too well that their results would not confirm their assumptions. And that would, of course, be bad for business.

Detox: flushing out poison or absorbing dangerous claptrap?

I also thought at first when you said "alone" I thought you ment to have another person in there with you. I don't think my husband would do that plus I don't think we'd both fit in the tub together.

We were given sweat glands for a reason. Epsom Salts which is a form of magnesium, relaxes our muscles, Lemon water is know to be healthy for the liver.. if it makes someone feel that much better there can't be much wrong with it.

No need to throw a cold rag on something that was supposed to be enjoyable.

Valeriedl - when I was typing that I was thinking the same thing... maybe he would rub your shoulders for you?

If you read the link you'll see that the proven reason for sweat glands is to cool the body, not detoxify it. No need to make unproven claims.

No reason not to enjoy a bath though. I just don't think we should tell others to use it for things that anyone familiar with biology knows to be untrue (like detox).

I don't take baths anyway, due to my bad experience with seizure(s) in the bath. I do showers. Anyone with epilepsy needs to be very careful while in the bath tub. People with epilepsy can drown in the tub during a seizure. The bathroom and kitchen are dangerous places for people with epilepsy.
