I've recently been prescribed Dialantin to take along with Trileptal. I've been taking Trileptal for the past almost 7 years but have recently been having seizures again and Neurologist thought Dialantin would help. I'm presently taking 450 mg of Trileptal in the morning and 400mg of Dialantin and 150 mg of Trileptal at night.

Here's my questions. Does Dialantin affect your sleep? It seems ever since I started taking it I've been having trouble sleeping. I wake up constantly at night and when I do sleep it's not a deep sleep or I have nightmares. But we've (my family) have been under a lot of stress lately so I don't know whether to contribute it to that or my new meds.

Also does Dialantin make you loose hair? I have very thick hair and been losing it like crazy! My hands are just full of hair when I wash it, comb it or brush it.

Another possible side affect? Hand shakes or tremors. Worst in the morning.

Can all of this be contributed to Dialantin? Are these worrisome affects or will these dissapate after a while?

Was also wondering is this a high dosage of meds I'm on? What is everyone else taking?

It seems like all the AEDs must have the potential to affect sleep and hair loss, particularly in the early stages as the body is adapting to a new drug/dosage. I didn't experience those side effects when I was on Dilantin, but I absolutely had the restless sleep, the nightmares, and the hair loss the first two months I was on Lamictal. Those side effects went away as my brain/body adjusted. I didn't have hand shakes, but since those also started with your Dilantin dosing, I wouldn't be surprised if it was responsible.

Are you keeping a journal of the side effects/seizures? That way you can tell if they are changing, increasing, decreasing etc. If they are increasing, or becoming intolerable, definitely get in touch with your neuro.

Your Dilantin dose seems about average. I'm not sure about the Trileptal, or how it might be affected in combo with the Dilantin.
