I have a question concerning diazapam. (Which I know know is valium) When my daughter had her first seizure they gave us a suppository of diazapam to have on hand in the, at the time, unlikely event that she had another. They said it would stop a prolonged seizure.

Now that she has been diagnosised with epilepsy I am wondering if, like before, she had hours of this pre-seizure odd feelings and behavior. If you took an oral Valium during that period, could that prevent the seizure from happening?

Just curious.

I think that would be something that would be best to ask the dr.

I don't know if she's on any other sort of medicine but taking the two of them together could cause some sort of reaction?

My doc advised seriously against taking valium /diazapam, worse than alcohol for people with epilepsy she informed me.

Oh, wow. Just seemed logical to me if they give it to STOP one, that it could prevent one. I do have that on my list for the Dr. for the next time we visit.

Thank you both for your reply.

I think this is a case off different things affect different people. My main seizure trigger is stress,so my Dr has me on 10mg off Diazapam,5mg in the morning and 5mg in the evening and it has worked wonders for my seizure control. But definitely remember to speak to your doctor about it.All the best.

Hi Crash!

Thanks for your reply. I will be at a follow up with the Dr. soon and we plan to discuss this. I always feel more at ease if I "think" I have prepared myself for most things that can come up. At least where that is possible.

Thanks again!

I have some valium so I may take one when I feel I need one. I was on them for years when I had different dr. Good to hear positive advice.
