This morning when I woke up the inside of my bottom lip was chewed out. I'm pretty sure I must have had a seizure then because I've chewed my mouth during them before.

My pj's are a tank top and boxer shorts, I wore them all day today. This evening I saw that I had some scratch marks that looked like they were done with fingernails about 3 inches long on my chest. They weren't bad or deep scratches and had scabs on them so whenever the scratches were done must have been earlier in the day. I took a nap in the afternoon in the also.

I have a cat with claws and when she's scratched me before they have looked like this. But I think if she would have scratched me if I was awake I would have know it and if I was asleep it would have probably woken me up if she would have done it them.

I don't think I've ever scratched myself during a seizure before but new things happen all the time.

Is it possible your skin was itchy during your sleep, such as in the case of a mild allergic reaction to something topical or something you ingested? Depending on how tired you were or how "doped up" you are during the night because of your medication or being overtired, you could have slept through having scratched yourself.

I throw that possibility out there only because I have woken up the next morning with mysterious scratches - maybe due to not rinsing soap off from myself, sheets or pyjamas, a mosquito or other bug bite, a reaction to a chemical in a food product, etc.
Taking a nap in the afternoon may simply mean your body is telling you to "slow down; you've been overdoing it lately", and not necessarily due to a seizure. I think you're the only one who can answer whether or not it was a seizure that occurred, based on how you typically feel following a seizure.

It very well could have been a seizure however I do understand how easy it is to kind of assume something is a seizure when it is not - even for neurologists :)

When my husband came home from work this morning I showed him the scratches and he said that they were there yesterday evening when he'd gotten up for work. He just never mentioned them because the thought I'd scratched myself. I was wearing a robe for most of the day yesterday too and that could have been why I never noticed them.

He thinks that I might have done it in the morning when I had the seizure. Sometimes during a seizure I'll rub my hand over my chest. He thinks that I think I'm using my VNS but I always rub on the wrong side of my chest, the side the scratches are on, and I don't have the magnet in my hand. Since I wasn't wearing a shirt that covered the skin on my chest I may have scratched myself with my fingernails, their pretty long right now.

When he comes home in the morning at 7am I usually get out of bed and talk to him for a little while then get back in bed and go to sleep. But yesterday he said that I wasn't acting like I usually do in the morning. I stayed in bed and pretty much just rolled over and told him hi then went back to sleep. If I'm not doing things like I normally do is sort of pre-seizureish for me.

I almost always take a nap in the afternoon so I know taking that nap wasn't related to any seizure.
