Wondering if anyone on dilantin has had to take a drug test for a job and had problems with it. I might have to do that, and I'm seeing conflicting things on it.
Some report no problems, but there are some who report failing because it showed up as a barbituate.

So? Anyone with any experience with this??

A standard lab drug test (as might be required for a job) consists of two parts: 1. An initial screening followed by 2. A confirming test. Phenytoin (Dilantin) is not a barbiturate, but one of the things it metabolizes into can suggest barbiturate in the initial screening. HOWEVER, the confirmatory GC/MS test will definitively rule out barbiturates. So no worries.

Would it be in your best interest to disclose it before hand? I probably would if I was concerned about it. I take lamictal, so I probably won't be mentioning it.

I don't take dilantin, but I'm on several other meds, and I don't work so I've never had to take a drug test for that. I have had to take several different drug tests for many other things that they need to make sure what is in your body is what should be there.

One of the tests was for when I was getting pain treatment for my back. I was getting shots in there and they were also giving me pain pills to take when I needed them. I had to take a drug test at every visit so they knew that I wasn't taking anything else for pain that I wasn't pescribed.

I let them know what meds I was on and how much the dosages were and I never had any problems with it.
