Guys might be able to help me on this. Has anyone currently taking Dilantin experienced Erectile Dysfunction? I have been taking Dilantin since I was 13 and am now experiencing this for the past 1 1/2yrs.

Sexual dysfunction and impotence are listed Dilantin side effects. Worth checking in with your doctor about.

Joe,
You're not alone.
I've been on dilantin for 31 years and have had ED since 1998 as a result of the long term use.
Talk to your Doctor. (my DR. is a woman and I talked to her about it to see if I could get a "RISE" out of her.)

RanMan...Thanks. I also am going to see a nuerologist someitme next week to talk about some things, ie: memory problems, poor concentration and sometimes slurred speech. Have been seeing the same Dr since i was diagnosed at 13, (I'm 38 now), but thought I should go see someone else. Has been driving my wife abousolutely crazy, even threatened divorce a few times because of this. Do you have any of those issues and how do you deal with them. Do you think it is wise to see a neurologist rather than my reg dr.?

Joe,
IMO ~ You should see a neurologist about this problem rather than your regular Doctor.
He will know how to deal with the side effects, tell him what you just told me.

Joe or Ran,

I was wondering if you ever got this figured out. I started having troubles in this area as I began tapering off of the Dilantin. I am now on Keppra, and while I can still function, it is not very good and my libido seems much less than before. But, again, I want to stress that I didn't notice any problem all the years I took Dilantin, it was only once I began stopping it that the problem manifested itself.

I was also taking Neurontin together with the Dilantin, so my doc thought maybe the Neurontin had a greater effect once the Dilantin was gone and now I am on Keppra. Things improved for about a month during the transition from Neurontin to Keppra, but now not so good anymore.

I am thinking of going back to Dilantin, but not if it is to blame to begin with. In your experiences, do you think it could be Dilantin to blame if the problem only began during the taper down period? I haven't been on Dilantin now for 2 years. My neuro just says go back to Dilantin, but I dont want to make the problem any worse. Also, I'm not married and I don't date because of this and I am worried that I may be messed up and won't be able to be with a woman again.

Thanks.
