I just don't know what to do with my Neur. no. 7 (I think)

I really like this Neur. except for this one thing.

I am doing better than I have in MANY years with my seizures.
I only have SMALL (compared to the ones I used to have)
I had a seizure after getting the flu and shingle shot. I knew why the seizures happen and didn't think that much about it, just counted my blessing that it was not like before.

This Neur. wants me without any break though seizures. In a perfect world I would too. She wants to change my meds. I have tried them all, with horrible results. I have given notes on all these meds. and what each one did.
I'm not willing to change since I'm better than I've ever been.

I don't the like the side effects of my meds. Dilantin and Clonazepam, but I feel I at least have a life worth living now.

Did she say what medication(s) she would like to try?

I dont see why she would want to change your medications when they are doing such a great job for you. I know what kind of hell it is to go through medication change. I would for sure try your hardest to explain to her how well you're doing and you are just not comfortable changing medications.

Thanks, I told her that. I reminded her how I reacted to the 3 meds. she tried. I also reminded her of what a mess I was in when I 1st. went to her. She said she knows, but she does not want any at all.

WELLL that is just not the way it goes. I've read post of others on other meds and they too have break throughs.

everyone has break through seizures. Even I do. Heck i went for over 12 years with being well controlled on Keppra and Cabatrol. even during those 12 years I had slips... after the birth of our second son... due to not getting enough sleep.. I had a seizure. anything like stress... lack of sleep... antibiotics etc

I say push as hard as you can to get what you want!

Gambling with meds just doesnt seem worth it, if you are happy with what you take now. Don't risk it. Because I was feeling pretty great on Keppra but was frustrated because I had breakthroughs. I would fully express how you feel, having breakthroughs is awful, but control you can live with is amazing.

I have to agree. Break throughs are much easier to live with. Stand firm!

You know your body best. I think I would tell the Dr. that I respect your opinion but would like to continue with the meds I'm taking.

This is why I'm so frustrated. I've said the very same thing to her. She makes this face, and acts as if what I just said doesn't matter.
I didn't call her when I had the small breakthrough seizure, I logged on my log, didn't see any need in calling, SHE didn't like that. She said I had better call her the next time and again she said she wanted me seizu. free.

She and I this same conservation with me telling her the same thing.

I just set there --- like what are you thinking.

I don't seem to be able to get through to her

Sounds like you might need to change doctors instead of meds. Your doc needs to respect you and your concerns. I know how frustrating it can be to have your doctor be unsupportive of your input considering your medications. I had similar resistance from my neurologist (over a different issue), and held firm, despite her lack of support for my decsions and point of view. If you can, stand pat and don't let the doc push you around. Yes, no seizures is better than breakthrough seizures, but if the cause of the seizure is an isolated event, then there is no pressing reason to make a medication change. And if your doctor is non-compliant, start looking around for someone who will be a better partner for you in your healthcare treatment.
