I always thought my auras were just auras until I went to a new doctor yesterday. It will only happen when I stand up from lying down, even if I slowly stand up so the blood isn't rushing to my head. My vision will be completely covered by flashing colors, my whole body will go numb and start throbbing, I will get a very bad headache, I'm aware of my surroundings, but I can't respond to people, and afterwards, I have a feeling of "did that just happen or did I dream it." All this will only last 3-5 seconds, and the intensity and pain of it will vary. In the past, it would be during my aura that I would pass out, then have a seizure. My old neurologist never said anything about my auras being seizures, but my family doctor thinks they are. I'm going a new neurologist soon hopefully. Do the auras sound like I'm having some kind of small seizure?

Auras vary from person to person, but it sounds like simple partial seizures. All auras are simple partial seizures, they frequently follow one another, leading to a more complex event that is simple a continuous set of subsequent auras of different kind.

The same thing happens to a lot of epileptics, though, as I said, because auras sensations vary it can be difficult to correlate to the descriptions of others.
