My mom got to talking today about the VEEG. She said she doesnt think they will take me off my medication while Im there. She told me about a time when I was a teenager and my dr then took me off of it. I was off for 11 days, and on the 11th day I started having huge seizures! They wouldnt stop, and my dr got scared they wouldnt! they finally did of course, but she said it was a scary time!

I told her I had no idea if they will or not. All Ive heard about is being sleep deprived, and then using the strobe lights. Other than that, I have no clue as to what will take place when it comes to my medications.

I think its worrying her too much to think about it. :( I just wish she wouldnt worry.

Mom,

Be sure to tell your doc about your previous experience.

They may or may not take you off your meds. They may try to get eeg results on your meds first, and if they can't get abnormal waves or a seizure, then they may either reduce your meds or take you off.

The good news is they have you in a bed with padded rails, and nurses nearby. The doesn't help 11 days out, though, when you are back home. If they won't stop, go straight to the ER!

Don't worry about things in the hospital. They will take very good care of you.

I think that it just depends. I just started a mobile eeg (where they stick the electrodes on your head and send you home lassts a week) and in feb i have a video eeg where i will be in the hospital for a week where they are going to take me off my meds. I would give the doc a call and ask. (if your a chicken like me, work yourself up to it but make the call). I agree that you should let your doc know about your previous experience.

No, only because I had a seizure there while still on my meds. but they were planning to remove them completely. not by weaning either. just straight removal.

They are doing the same to me Rae... no weaning before hand... straight up take me off of them. My docs reasoning is that she will be there if something "goes wrong" that doesn't give me faith, but eh time to get to the bottom of things i guess.
