Hi: When I am very tired and I start falling asleep my stomach area kinda has these rolling deep abdominal spasms. I try to wake up but cannot. It is a very weird feeling. Not painful just happens. Anyone have anything like this? My t/c are controlled, but maybe this is some variation.

Thank you.
Katie

It could be a simple partial. Your brain often throws off funky patterns just when you're dozing to sleep. I guess that's one of the reasons why they like to do sleep deprivation EEGs.

The vagus nerve more or less runs from the stomach up to the brain, so some kinds of seizure can involve abdominal spasms. You might consider taking a magnesium supplement to see if it helps -- magnesium can help with preventing muscles spasms of all sorts, including cramping.

I agree with LJ Bain on this one. I've been a sufferer of simple partials for years and an odd stomach sensation just fits to a tee. There are four categories in which S-Ps are put (Motor, Sensory, Autonomic, and Psychic). Autonomic is what controls the stomach:

AUTONOMIC seizures:
These cause changes in the part of the nervous system that automatically controls bodily functions. These common seizures may include strange or unpleasant sensations in the stomach, chest, or head; changes in the heart rate or breathing; goose bumps.

Are you having any other strange sensations or thoughts right before, after, or during the stomach rolling?

Actually, yes I sometimes have a rapid heart beat and then real shallow breathing. Thanks for your help.
