Just typed an entire message and lost it...here goes again...

Background: As an newborn, I had seizures for no known reason. I was on phenobarbitol for 6 months and then weened off.

Present: Just yesterday, and sometimes this occurs monthly, I had an odd experience. I had been up cooking dinner and went to sit down at the computer. Once sitting, my eyes started moving involuntarily for about 10 seconds. Sort of a figure 8 motion that caused dizziness. I was fully aware of what was going on. When I could finally see normal again, I felt nauseous and I had a dull pain in my eyes (which I am still feeling). I had an awesome nights sleep last night! This happened to me once while on the phone with my mom. Again, I knew what was going on, but for those 10 seconds or so, I couldn't quite get the words out to tell her what was going on. Everything felt like it was in slow motion, my thinking was slow, and while I could verbalize, I couldn't spit out what was happening.

Childhood to present: Around the 4th grade, I started having migraines monthly with the aura, a spinning mass in front of my eyes. It would cause me to feel sick, vomit, then I would have to sleep off the headache. When I would awaken, I would have that slow, hard to think feeling for a day or so. Those migraines seemed to stop around the time I started my period. I would have one occasionally, but not monthly. I still get them sporadically. Sometimes with a headache, sometimes just the aura, but always followed my a slow, mental fog. I think that those could be related to hormones. Until reading on this board today, I never thought hormones and seizures were related. Don't know if that is the case with me, but just throwing it out there. I also always get a migraine with aura anytime I do high cardio exercise. Always. And always have the mental fog and sore eyes.

On a side note: The same experience I had with seizures as an infant happened with my daughter as a newborn (now 6 yrs). She was weened off phenobarbitol at age 3 mos. She is seeing a neurologist in March for some random experiences of upset stomach, ringing and hissing in her ears (which I also experience sometimes), breaking out in a cold sweat, twice she vomited and one time fell and had a minor jerking of her head. Her episodes always happen in the morning.

So, that is my story. I have NO IDEA if any of this could be seizure related, so I am hoping for some feedback.

Should I see my doctor about this?

I don't assume this would get any better, but could it get worse over time?

Any info, advice, stories, guidance, anything would be appreciated!

Hi Heatherley30, welcome to CWE!

I think it's worth touching base with your doc about your symptoms. They could be migraine-related or seizure-related (the disorders are close cousins), but either way, it makes sense to get checked out.

Unfortunately, there's no way to predict if your symptoms will change over time. It can help enormously to track them though. If you can, keep a symptom/seizure diary so you can see if they are increasing in frequency or duration, and note down as well any other triggers (like hormones or fatigue or certain foods) that might be playing a role. Since there may be a hormone-related component, you might want to ask your neurologist about the possibility treatment with progesterone cream.

Best,
Nakamova
