if I am making a good decision, but Im looking here for a little advice. In January we had a ice storm that covered everything in a quarter inch. I had gone out to try to get to my car and fall. Next thing I know Im on my back head throbbing, and im trying to figure out where im at. I was fine, and went to work, but by the end of the day I could not stand up straght, and I had a hard time speaking. My mom had called my neuros office, and they said that he was on call, and to go to the er, and he would see me. I went they did ct, and it was ok, they said go home. My neuro didnt even bother to come down, untill my dad requested it, and then he said take a asprin, and go home. Im glad there was nothing wrong, but my head hurt so bad, my vision was blurred, mt balance was off, and I was having problemsthinking. A week later I called his office because the problems were still there. His nurse called back and said maybe I should ask my family dr, because he was too busy. At this point I never wanted to see another dr EVER, but was told that i needed a dr. So my mom found a epileptologist, and made a appt for me. So is switching dr's a good idea? Up until january I really liked this dr, and are all dr.s alike.

If your neurologist won't be there for you when you need him, why would you be unsure about finding another one?

On top of it your mom found an epileptologist who specializes in E., not just a neurologist.

the Doc might be a very nice guy, but if he isn't going to help you when you need him to, what use is he?
You might have had a concussion from hitting the ground. That should have been looked at very seriously. Go to the new doctor and begin again. If this one doesn't work out, try another.

have to agree also. That first doc is a bum. He's not worth the time it takes to make a phone call. GEEZ LOUISE. If he can't take the time out of his day to get his arse down to SEE you and actually SPEND SOME TIME ASSESSING you, then it is time for you to change doctors. PERIOD. No ifs, ands, or buts about it.

My biggest hesitation is this will be my 3rd neuro. I didnt like the first one at all. He would come , and turn around and leave and I never knew what was going on. This current neuro has at least tried new things. Not only for my seizures, but for my brain injury. Im just scared this new neuro will be like the first, and I dont like switching dr's. I have been w/ my fam doc since I was 9,and Im 30ish.

We saw two, then we went back to #1, he knew very little about E, and now we are onto #3. She seems to be a good fit. At least she is allowing us to experiment and not just doing it by the book. I don't like switching either, makes for a pain with the paperwork. However, you deserve to have the best possible care you can find. You are given this life to be the best you can be.

Switching docs is an excellent idea at this point. Think of it this way....do you want a nice doctor or a doctor that's going to do his best for you? The two are not necesarily mutually exculsive...but they can be...

Breaking down the Neurologist Classifications...

Epileptologist are Neurologist that specializes
in Epilepsy / Seizure Disorders.

There are Neurologists out there that also
specializes in Epilepsy / Seizure Disorders
as well ~ just some of them just do not like
to be called "Epileptologist".

They can be just as good as an Epileptologist
and even my own Neurologist is a "Level 4"
category - however, he is that and beyond
for he specializes beyond a general Neurologist
as he also specializes in Neurological Diseases
and Other Disorders as well.

It is not so much as an Epileptologist / Neurologist,
but rather ~ the reputation of such. Is he/she more
that willing to work with you, taking the time to sort
things out, looking at all options available, and so on.

While in Neurology - a Neurologist are in
classification:
Level 1 - general Neurologist
Level 2 - a more advanced over a general Neurologist
Level 3 / 4 - Specialists of specific Neurological issues
(which can be more than "one" area, and it can be
Epilepsy / Seizure Disorders).

I hope this above information is of help for you in
the breakdown of Neurologist classifications.

So this miht have neen a mistake. I saw the new neuro today, and he said you have seen alot of dr's, at some point you have to make a choice and stick with it. My friends had helped me put a list together, and he wouldnt go over it. I started to mention my headaches, and he said " I dont do headaches" So I guess Im done w/ dr's. I will see the brain injury specialist 1 more time, and if he doesnt have anything other than come back in 3 months, then im done. At least I got a nerve block today so hopefully it will help the head pain. Should I start to decrease my meds if I dont have dr to write the script? Its all to much to figure out.

That's odd because my neurologist actually asked me if I had headaches. I was told that a neurological headache is more of a constant pressure than a throbbing. I'm not surprised what he said about you seeing a lot of doctors. It sounds like any client who likes to choose their neuros wouldn't put up with that cr*p.

There are good neurologist out there, don't give up just because one of them doesn't like you shopping around.

Listen to your heart.
I spent 30 yrs doing what the conventional doctors told me to do for my headaches. If this pill didn't work try this one. I am sure I tried at least 8. Some better than others.

It wasn't until I took a gamble. Found a name of a doctor in a book, and I actually held my breath when I called because I didn't think he would have the time for little ol me. His practice is extremely busy, but it must have been meant to be, because they had a cancellation that next Saturday and I went to see him and he has been the best answer to my life long struggle with migraines. He prescribed magnesium, and I haven't had a migraine in over 4 yrs.
