Hi ye sorry me again!!! Just wondering what meds anyone has succesfully taken along side tegretol, going my docs later bout time they listened it isn't working alone cannot wait this out till september

Hi Maisy,

Tegretol was the 1st med my neurologist put me on after my seizures returned in 2002 (I had epilepsy as a baby/toddler & went 21 years seizure free).

Over the last 11 years I have tried 4 other meds with Tegretol - Lamictal, Topamax, Keppra, Neurontin. Out of all those meds the only 2 that I seemed to have noticebale side effects on was Topamax (no appetite so lost weight) & Neurontin (moody, really tired, bad memory).
None of the meds I tried helped to completely control my partial seizures so in 2009 my neurologist & I discussed looking into seeing if I was a candidate for brain surgery. After meeting an epitiologist, going through pre surgery testing I had the surgery on 10th March 2011 & when I had my surgery I was on Tegretol & Keppra.

The surgery was a success as it has helped control my seizures & in March 2012 when I was 12 months post surgery I was able to talk with my neurologist about slowly coming of one of my meds. We decided to ween me of the Tegretol which was a very slow progress as we did it over 12 months. I am currently at the final stages of weening of the Tegretol & on Monday I will be coming of Tegretol completely & being on just Keppra.

We all react differently with meds & what works for some people doesn't work for others. I hope you & your dr will be able to find another med which will help with your seizures.

Hi Maisy, I'm in the same boat. Tegretol at the moment is not working for me although it was when I first started. I have complex partials but I have never been totally sieizure free, I have just brought my neurologists appointment forward to May 13th which is the earliest I can see him and hopefully he can shed some light on it before I go totally crazy. Good luck. I hope everything settles for you soon.

well he had bright idea too reduce my sertraline, gotta go back Thursday unfortunately just A locum today :( but he was nice

There'll and Keppra were controlling some seizures but not all; addition of vimpat has helped a LOT.
