Good morning everyone!

I have to have my baseline colonoscopy tomorrow (yes, I am that old). The thing that is concerning me is the fact that I have to get up at 4am to finish the pre proceedure prep. Has anyone experienced seizure difficulty during one of these things? I only worry because of the fact that my seizures are nocturnal. I would really hate to have one with a camera up my butt :)

Wow, good question! I'm not quite there yet, age-wise, so I'm interested in the answer... Do they give you a sedative or relaxant during the procedure? I imagine that would help. If not, you might ask about the possibility of takng half a valium, or something comparable.

Yes, they do give a sedative during the procedure. The only reason I know is because I had to take my mother while she had hers done and she was sedated. And my dr. has said that since I had my last birthday, I'm now of age to have one done, also. Ugh!

I wish I only had to worry about nocturnal seizures. What is worse, having a seizure while at the dentist or while having a camera up your butt? :ponder:

I will get the "happy" drug that sedates you and you actually have no memory of the whole thing. Yipeee. My only concern is that I will be so tired and out of sorts from the prep before and having to get up that early. They did tell me that I could take my morning meds before I go in, so maybe that will help out. I just don't want to make their Christmas party reel as one of the "funny" patients. Flipping around like a fish out of water might lighten their day, but I don't want to hear about it :)

I heard that they make you use a laxative to clear everything out of your system. That could be a problem for your medication levels if everything is purged before it has a chance to absorb.

Yep, I have a whole gallon of some sort of evil liquid that I have to drink. Half of it tonight between 6 and 8, and the other half tomorrow 4am to 6am. It is gonna be awesome!

It's not as bad as it sounds actually. I had to do one two years ago (a few concerns) and it was not near as bad as I was expecting. You take the liquid the night before, take your meds on time with a tiny bit of water, go to bed early and get as much sleep as you can, then go in and get put under with a light anasthesia. You're actually only out for 1/2 hour or less, then have someone drive you home. That day you'll be so empty so you'll want to be careful what you eat (no burgers or pizza!) and that's it. It's not even embarrassing 'cuz you're not awake for it.

Thanks! That makes me feel better :) The only other part I see as being an issue.....we have only 1 bathroom :)

I rarely get T/C seizures but I remember when I got a colonoscopy that getting me cleaned out provoked a T/C seizure (at least it was in bed). I was having trouble after that understanding the directions on the bottle of "cleaner" so I had to phone a friend at 2AM their time (I'm in a different time zone) to read the instructions to them & ask what it meant.

Be careful HM.

Hehe, ohhh, hugs to you! Well every liquid is a bit different but you can expect it to 'hit' you at least within two hours of taking it, so just get everyone in the house to do whatever they have to do in there, right up to the time you feel it coming on, then it's all yours! As long as everyone has showered/went up to that time it shouldn't matter, and besides it's not as if you're sitting for hours on end, the feeling comes and goes somewhat. No worries!
As for epileric's post, he's right however I noticed you have nocturnal seizures, so that shouldn't be so bad. If you go to bed early enough and aren't stressing yourself out about the test, plus take your meds on time I can't see much reason to worry. If your med time is within a few hours of taking the liquid just adjust the time a bit.
