EEG and MRI machines- are there different models

My title probably sounds crazy, but anyway.

I have had MANY eeg and MRI test in the past (diff. neur. & hospitals) they all showed nothing. Until I went to Emory a teaching hospital in Atlanta.

At emory the 1st test show where my seizures originate from. This lead me to thinking there are different machines used doing EEG and MRI.

I read so many post here that was just like me in the past. I was wanting to know this so that I could help others in finding the best place for these test.

With the scan, it's a combination of three factors:

1. Timing: What your brain is doing/showing at the moment of the test.

2. Equipment: There are newer MRI and EEG machines that are often more precise than older models.

3. Interpretation: Some neurologists are better than others at reading scans/EEGs.

Epilepsy centers affiliated with universities (such as Emory) can oftent be a step up in quality, due to the resources they have, and the volume of people they see.

It could be because this time you went to a teaching hospital. They see people of all different ages and seizures. I've always had my tests done at a teaching hospital. So as Nakamova said, it's timing and the type of EEG best for your seizures. My doctor doesn't do the 1 hr EEGs on me anymore because that's just a waste of time since I only had tonic-clonics and my seizures were 3 or 4 months apart.so she always does the 24 hour ambulatory EEGs and she has to read the EEG very carefully.

Findind out the cause of my seizures was the only thing good I took away from Emory. The Epileptologist had a ego as big as a house.
That was when I was put on Keppra, it stopped the seizures, BUT the side effects were off the charts.
She would not listen to me or my husband.
I took myself off that medic. (I know a dumb thing to do) and went back to my old neur. and requested to put back on dilantin.
