My 8yr old daughter had her first EEG yesterday, after having her first ever seizure (tonic) 12 days prior. The first part of the test was 2 minutes of IPS, followed by 3 minutes of hyperventilation, and a 25 minute sleep test. Just after the second part of the test was complete, she began having multiple, rapid myoclonic jerks. Or at least, that is what I think they were. Not huge jumps...more like little twitches. These went on continuously for at least a full minute, no more than 2. Her shoulders, arms, fingers, stomach, legs, and toes were all affected, randomly. She was completely awake at the time. I spoke to her to be sure that she was totally aware of her surroundings, which she was.
We are entirely brand new to all of this, though I've done a ton of research since she had the tonic seizure almost two weeks ago. It's clear she had an abnormal reaction triggered, which was likely some sort of seizure activity.
So, here's the question part...
What type of seizure does this sound like to you? And more importantly, can anyone tell me if this is the sort of seizure activity that is easily picked up by an EEG, or often missed?
I've read so many accounts of clear EEGs when Epilepsy was actually in play... and I'm concerned because there is a history of seizures in both my side of the family (my father and my father's aunt both took seizure meds as adults), as well as my husband's side of the family (his mother, though she was never diagnosed because of a clear EEG). It sounds bad, but I'm actually worried the EEG will come back clear.
I started out praying for normal results, but now I'm just praying for an accurate reading.
