Yesterday I had a busy day with uni. By the time I sat down, it was 8pm. I had a strong aura that hit suddenly and went into what I think was a simple partial. I appeared to have waves of complex partials, the first lasting 15mins then in between, my teeth chattered and I was still twitching but I could talk and I was responsive. Two more waves of whatever it was came over and I was jerking and groaning but still mostly conscious. I started going blue and my breathing was erratic so an ambulance was called. All bloods were fine.

As luck would have it, the Epileptologist had a cancellation and I can have an EEG tomorrow!! I can also get in for a consult on the 20th March, much better than late April!

I'm absolutely shattered but I'm going to try and sleep deprive myself responsibly to increase my chances of having a seizure. Do any of you reduce your medication the morning of an EEG? I know it's probably not following protocol but it would really help if I can finally get a seizure detected. Mum and I would hang around near the hospital just incase. Is this being irresponsible?

From what I can recall, they always did my EEGs before my morning dose. I took my PM dose the night before and stayed up til 4am and got maybe two hours of sleep before going to get the EEG done. The EEG took half an hour to an hour. My last EEG was probably around 4-5 years ago.

Awe shucks! Sorry you had a rough one! Although it sounds as if it turned into something a little on the positive. My first thought is you should probably do as you are supposed to and take your meds just like normal and try and get a good nights sleep. However......!!! If you have been struggling to catch something on EEG so that you can finally have some answers that my dear you do what you think will trigger that seizure! Sounds like you have already thought it through and will have somebody with you and be close to the hospital. Just be careful and good luck! Hope it all goes just the way its supposed to. <3

HI Wobblez,

Sorry about the rough time you have had with your seizures.
It is probably best to still take your medication before you have your EEG unless the neuro or Dr has told you otherwise.
Good luck with the EEG Tomorrow.

Thanks everyone. I've resisted the urge to sleep all day today. I had to wander around the shops with my mum to stay awake - spending money helps. I wont be silly about it, i'll just have 2 less hours sleep tonight than usual because I am really shattered today. I think i'll take half my dose in the morning to compromise and still be safe. Mum and I bought some year 8 maths exercise books. I hate maths and I can't remember all that stuff so I figured if we do it together, that should cause some mental stimulation and help provoke something before the EEG! I'm also planning to study in the morning and sit on the computer lol! How sick and twisted are we!!

I was going to stay up all night for my last test, which was last week. I re-thought that and did the 5 hour sleep instead. My test was before the time I take my morning meds, so I didn't have to worry about that. I did take my nighttime ones at the regular time. I really didn't think that my eeg would show anything, but it did. Best of luck...let us know how it goes!

Thanks huskymom! That's encouraging! Did you feel something happening? Was it just an aura or an actual seizure? Over here they just flash lights in your eyes and get you to hyperventilate, neither are triggers for me so it doesn't do much!

And i've taken this evening's dose as usual. Don't want to risk somethng happening in my sleep which is quite common for me.

I just stayed up all night for the EEG I'm taking today, I really hope this one actually shows something, I haven't had any real seizure activity lately except for a few déjà vu's, and a possible aura at work a few months ago, I'm not taking my primidone as my script has run out, I had a refill but lost it somewhere in my car, plus if skipping a dose can finally prove something on the EEG than great. I'd really like to take some pain meds right now my back is killing me but I don't want to do anything that will interfere with the test. I'm also dying for some caffeine, it's 9am here, test isn't till 2pm

wobblez u want results do what u need to do to get results is what i would do your with a loved one at a hospital!heck i have done it i dont recommend this cause it didnt really work i went cold turkey off my meds b/c had the video eeg at my house and wanted to get a answer BAD went 3 days without them and it got real bad again im a guy and young and american.lol hope it goes well!!!

I hope you did okay Wobblez. And I really hope you didn't go with the opinions and skip your meds, though it sounded like that was the plan.
Taking seizure meds into one's own hands against or without their doctor's advice is a huge no-no in epilepsy, I'm sure you're aware of that. It's not a safety guarantee either being at the hospital around that time - skipping a med dose can have an effect for days.

Hello everyone.

I decided to compromise and still stay safe so I only had 5 hours sleep which is a big deal for me as I need a lot of it at the moment. I then took half my morning dose, ate well and stayed hydrated. The minute the test finished, I took the remainder of my morning dose. I find out on tuesday when I see the specialist. Fingers crossed!

Acpollard, I love that you mention your male, young and American! Maybe that's where i'm going wrong because i'm female, youngish and Aussie!!

Thats funny prolly true if u can keep me posted on what ur doc. Says if not intruding and glad things went ok.
