okay so i asked this before but i youtubed it anyway. How is an EEG done? and what are the steps? I watched some on youtube and it looks like they are shaving away hair!! i dont want that. I have such a hard time growing my hair its not funny plus im getting married and dont want silly chunks missing. Does it look bad? is there another way to do this? i have long hair but its thin. They use glue someone said but do they honestly have to shave your hair for it to stick? :-(

My daughter has had 3 EEGs and 1 VEEG. Never once did they shave her head. For the short term test it is like a wax that is used to stick it to the scalp. You move the hair away and you see skin. The VEEG has a stronger glue, but you can ask the technician to clean you up afterwards. They have a remover that works very well.

I use EEG wires when I do Neurofeedback on my daughter. I clean the skin, I put some of the wax/conductive ointment on the skin and on the pad of the wire. It stays put for the treatment. Rubbing alcohol and a shower clean up her hair, and there is no way to tell she had it done.

It is a breeze.

Nope, never had my hair shaved. (I have long thin hair too). The EEG technician puts on glue to hold the EEG sensors in place. No hair loss, but afterwards I went right home and washed my hair.

With my most recent EEG, they had a doctor put in an additional sensor on either side of my head, sort of between the cheekbone and the temple. It was a subcutaneous (under the skin) sensor, so a doctor had to do it instead of the tech guy. It didn't hurt but it felt a bit strange (as if the rest of the glued-on sensors didn't feel strange too!). The deeper sensor is supposed to give a more accurate reading, but I don't think they use them for longer EEGs.

i'll show you what i mean...

this video i cant tell if there is shaving involved. just looks like glue to me

This video there is some buzzing noise and it looks liek it hurts a little.

I think on the second one the buzzing noise is in the background and unrelated to attaching the EEG sensors. The tech is just putting glue on her head. The girl may be a bit squirmy and anxious (she's young), but I don't think she's in pain.

Really, there should be no pain and no shaving when you have your EEG.

PHEW: i just got nervous and thought that want he was using was taking away jer hair. lol okay breathing easier now... *in, out, in, out* THanks Nakamova! i suck at explaining things. really badly. plus I find i'll notice things people dont. *example: hearing a noise in the background and nobdy notices til i mention it* so when i'll say how something feels or happens nobody seems to understand unless show. lol.

Relax

One thing I have noticed about this CWE is that we're one big family. So relaxe about explaining things we've seen alot of different stuff on here. So if one person hasn't been in your situation another person has. Just relax and good luck with your tests.

Hello- I've had 6 EEGs and 1 AEEG (72hr) and they don't shave your hair at all. No need. They first clean it, where the electrode will be, then put coloidin or the special glue which can be washed out easily. Your hair might be a mess after the test is done, but by brushing it and washing it a few time, its back to normal. There are special techneques to placing EEG electrodes for short, long, wavey, thick and thin hair or for people with no hair.
You can ask them before you have it done too if you're still concerned. They make it as troublesom as possible. Its kinda irritating to me, when they are cleaning the area where the electrod goes because they use a mild gritty paste to make sure your skin is totally clean where the metal goes. Now if you accidently pull on it while its gluded on, it might be a little uncomfortable but never extremely painful.
The 72hour AEEG I had done showed a lot which was great in a way. Finally, seizures and spike and wave waveforms showed up. All of my other EEGs were pretty much normal. One I had in the office showed spike and wave and driving responce waveform when I had the photo-stimulation done which I never knew.

Anyways- please don't worry and if you have questions, ask. Many many people here have had it done. It's never as bad as it seems. :)
Take care,
Crystal

LOL, I've

given up trying to remember just how many EEGs I've had over the years. The ones that I've had in recent years have been sooooooo much more comfortable than the ones that I had as a kid. The ones done back then are not done that way anywhere now, so don't worry.

A lot of technicians that I know recommend using baby oil to get the glue out of your hair....it just depends on the type of glue that is used. Make sure that you ask when the EEG leads are being taken off.

You'll be fine. Don't stress. :)
