Have their been any reports of having epilepsy or taking anti-seizure drugs caused infertility? If so, can someone post links? I'm discovering that a lot of women I know have PCOS or endometriosis, both which can cause infertility. I was curious if there was a link between the two.

I dont know if having epilepsy is linked to PCOS or Endometriosis. I found out I had PCOS at the age of 18. I had my first period at the age of 14, but it came and went. I had gained alot of weight in my early teen years, and went for as long as 18 months with no period. We didnt know what was going on til we moved east and saw a specialist. it was then that I had some tests and found out I was insulin resistant and had PCOS. Ive been taking the Glucophage XR since then and its helped me out alot.

There's a connection between PCOS an epilepsy, but it's not well-understood. See http://www.epilepsy.com/info/women_pcos Given the roles that hormones can play in brain chemistry, it makes sense that PCOS may be correlated, or play a role as a primary or secondary trigger because of the hormone fluctuations. The article at the link mentions that certain anti-seizure meds (Depakote) are associated with PCOS, and other anti-seizure meds (Tegretol, Dilantin, and Lamictal) seem to reverse it.

I have Epilepsy and now have two grown children. When I became pregnant with both of them years ago, I was taking Dilantin. They are both happy, healthy and educated now. My sister had with a severe case of endometriosis and went in-vitro to conceive. She didn't have E. It was after my children were born that my hormones went haywire! I started having menopause symptoms. I finally had an endometrial ablation and things were back to normal.

Antiseizure meds and Endo

I've been doing some research regarding anti-seizure medication being a possible cause of Endometriosis. I've been epileptic since I was 12 years old. I found out that I'd had Stage 4 Endometriosis last year around this time. The research I've done so far has gotten me to find out that Endometriosis is genetic and no one in my family has or has had Endometriosis in the past. And I've also discovered that if you take or took Depakote and some types of birth control it can cause Endometriosis.

It took me close to 2 years to conceive but I never had an Endometriosis or PCOS diagnosis. My baby boy is nine months old now and as healthy as can be.
