We are looking for a superb neurologist, preferably in Massachusetts, New Hampshire, or Maine. We especially would like someone knowledgeable about causes of seizures, including stress. I understand Brigham and Women's in Boston is highly reputable, but thoughts on that hospital as well as doctors elsewhere would be so very welcome.

Stress, various stimulants such as ginseng, gingko biloba, caffeine, taurine are known seizure triggers. I found it frustrating to see products with absolutely no warning about these products specifically for aggravating against a seizure disorder.

Going on a 'Modified Atkins Diet' (MAD), gluten free diet is also helpful.

My seizures are well controlled with mysoline and lamictal. One huge factor that made a difference for me is taking brand name only medications. At one point, there was a study that people with epilepsy can be affected by switching medications from brand to generic or vice versa.

Have you gone into your insurance site to see what providers are located there?

A neuro who specializes in epilepsy, an epileptologist, would be very knowledgeable. Try this website for more great info on specialists in your area:

For the type of E that I have, I go to a level 4 Center. They offer superb service, IMO.
