I have been serving in the Army National Guard for nearly three years now. I developed epilepsy (grand mal) shortly after returning from basic training. It was believed to be an isolated event since I have no recurring problems of it prior or during boot camp. Roughly two months following the first I had another and it began on a monthly basis, even with medication. Being a jackass I stopped taking my meds to get an idea of how long I can last without them. Four days was the longest.
Been through three different meds so far and now I have been put on Lamotrigine. My dosage of it has been upped twice so far; four in the morning and four in the evening.
So far I have been given no direct answer as to what will become of my career in the ARNG. While it does seem obvious that I would be medically discharged at first glance, they have possibly opened the option of giving me a desk job, though I am quite pessimistic about my situation. It's been a full year since all my medical records have been processed and I was due for an appointment with the Medical Review Board... Twice. Both were cancelled. I haven't been given any information regarding my situation for around five months now. I am practically begging to stay in and at least finish my six-year contract, though I believe by the time they come to a conclusion it will be done haha.
I'm done with the waiting now. While I would greatly appreciate the opportunity to stay in I just want an answer as to what will happen, regardless of that answer. It gets pretty boring up at the armory not being able to do anything other than basic vehicle maintenance and goofing off for the two days. I can't deny it's awesome getting payed for that but I would much rather prefer something a helluva lot more innovative.
If anyone has any advice concerning my predicament I would greatly appreciate it. Thank you.
