Indeed...if the core is weak so will your mantle and crust be...well you get what I mean...first and foremost you need to
STRENGTHEN YOUR CORE without weights! I learned this the hard way by carelessly diving into a 3 day split bodybuilding program utilizing weights but never really focusing on
THE CORE...I mean sure your core does get worked with any workout you do really...if you are training to be the incredible hulk then you want to go with heavier weight/less reps...if you are training to be a lean mean toned up sex machine then you want to go lighter weight/more reps...
These are the two basic and most common ways of working out (with weights)...however when it comes to core training it's completely different...actually it's kind of a mix of both...depending on how you train/exercise...what you really want is a mixture of strength/endurance...because both will work hand in hand like siblings getting along...
BALANCE is one thing that can be effected if you train improperly...your body is readjusting itself every time you train believe it or not and you need to train all your muscles
EQUALLY...any imbalance in muscle size and strength is going to create a ton of problems...which is why I don't recommend isolation training...you really want to train your entire body the same amount...I started off doing full body workouts and quickly realized I was going to end up killing myself if I continued...so thus I switched to the 3 day split program (and learned some lessons along the way)...
now I incorporate 3 different types of workout and if you are just starting out you should work your way up so your body has time to get use to the stress/changes...just saying
1. Cardio - Help build up your endurance levels
examples: walking, running, biking, jump rope, jumping jacks, etc...
2. Calisthenics - Help build up your strength levels
examples: sit ups, push ups, dips, pull ups, squats, jumping squats, etc...
3. Weights - Help build up your muscle levels
I recommend dumbbells since they also help target your core/balance but you can use barbells as a mixture of them is actually good for mass/strength...I don't recommend machines at all because well they just suck and are boring...not to mention defy the laws of physics in real life situations...but you are training to become stronger in real life situations!!!
oh yeah can't forget to stretch and do yoga! (never stretch a cold or tense muscle...warm it up first or you may give youself a booboo!)
tennis balls and foam rollers along with other similar equipment are good for massages/myofascial release...otherwise you run the risk of being very very naughty... :bondage:
