Hi everyone,

I have TLE-

Typical aura/simple partials, complex partials and secondary generalization

My family and I have noticed that sometimes, especially when tired or getting mild aura symptoms (the kind that you can have for hours and it not develop), or days I have a seizure, my eyelids will be fluttering/jerking. I also have it after a tonic-clonic, but assumed it was residual electric stuff.

I'm conscious whilst it's happening, can usually feel it but not always and it happens mostly in one eye (my right).

Any ideas if this is seizure related (seems to be linked to mine at least) and why it's occurring?

Thanks :)

To my knowledge that is pretty common in epilepsy.
Atypical Absence Seizure
Similar to a typical absence seizure, the subject will stare, but still be somewhat responsive. Eye fluttering and lip jerks are common. This kind of seizure is also trademark of Lennox-Gastaut syndrome.

I remember being told when I was younger that one of the ways to trigger a seizure was to deliberately flutter your eyelids for an extended period of time.

The eye fluttering happens to me a good bit. It's only for a second or two and it's in both eyes. I know what's going on the whole time and I don't think I've ever had a seizure before or after it happening.

I read somewhere that it can be a side effect of a medicine and it was one that I was on.

I know when I fill out the paperwork for my visit with my neuro it is one of the things to check off if it's happening. My neuro thinks it's because of the med that I'm on. He did have some testing done but everything showed up ok. He said if it starts to happen more often to let him know.

I notice sometimes that my vision will suddenly change from normal to dark or foggy like I'm wearing sunglasses but maybe not that dramatic. It's like my brain is having a hard time adjusting to or processing light information. If it's not that then I'll see "shooting stars" or other strange light anomalies that appear out of nowhere, then disappear and my eyes will become twitchy and/or feel heavy.

Do any of you notice that you are more sensitive to light as you are moving, say like in a car or something? Before I found the right medication to control most of my seizure activity my right eyelid would do this weird thing where it would move like it was trying to close or something, I don't know what to say about that but it would freak me out!

I know this probably isn't the appropriate thread but sometimes I also hear like echoes of voices, not actual voices though, or maybe they are??? :ponder:

Along with seizures for the past 2 years, I've also been dealing with eye twitching.

I researched that seizure activity on the left side of the brain will have effects on the right side of your body and vice-versa. I rarely ever feel my left eye twitch or weakness in my left arm or hand, but have loss count how often my right side twitches, from my face, arms and to my legs.

It's basically a partial seizure when your eye twitches or twitches on other parts of your body. On days when my left eye twitches on and off all day, I either end up having a full seizure during the day or I awake the next morning from a nocturnal seizure.

Yeah I was aware about the absence seizures but I don't have generalized epilepsy or absense seizures

I think it happened pre AEDS but im not certain, it may be a side effects

I'm definitely not sensitive to light but it is really freaky to feel. Echos may be like a simple partial seizure thing?

Ahh okay this sounds similar to me I'm guessing if my tle is coming from my left side it's causing symptoms in my right side, I also tug at my clothing with only my right hand in complex seizures if that's related?

If one eye twitches, it also can mean that your body needs rest. I don't know about both eyes twitching though.

That makes perfect sense, since getting proper rest can sometimes be a tricky challenge, especially if you have certain conditions and are on medication which may or may not cause symptoms that interfere with said sleep.
