My wife was very open and upfront about her epilepsy when we first met. It wasn't a big deal to her, so it wasn't a big deal to me (or the rest of our circle of friends). YMMV.

Talking Publicly About My E

Belinda,
I did the same thing as you when I started giving interviews to local and state newspapers about my E. I would make sure to ask the person I was doing the interview with to send a copy of their newspaper to my mother. She hated me any time that I was open about my E with someone who was not a family member! It just made me feel good to know that she was going to get a paper with a story on the front page that told everybody who read it that her son had E. The entire time that I had E she refused to even acknowledge that I had E. I was 'damaged goods' as far as she was concerned!
I have always had a feeling of pride in myself. My E is one of the largest reasons that have this pride. Being able to deal positively with your E can be a very uplifting thing for a person!
I also got contacted by people who had read these stories about questions that they had about E. I feel that this was a good thing that happened because I made the decision to give these interviews about my E. :twocents:

I volunteered at EFA in Atlanta in the 90's and a lady who worked there decided of all the people she knew with epilepsy that I should be interviewed. She was a special lady I'll never foget named Johnnie Hall who died in 2013 and that hit me really hard.
