I had been going to a basic Neurologist ever since the first grand mal. I decided that he really was not providing the best care so we decided (wife included) to make an appointment with an Epilepsy specialist. After one session I feel like I am getting much better care.
Preliminary diagnoses is Temporal Lobe Epilepsy and now I am going to have some more testing along with slight changes in medications. This is a really great start.
I would like to thank Bernard and everyone on this site for helping me get more education on E!!! It really has made a difference.

The road is still long but I think we may be in the correct lane for once. Sure I'll have more bumps but that's why this site is here.

Good for you it does make a huge difference being with a Neuro who specializes in Epilepsy. Keep healing.

Being positive about the road ahead is 99% of the healing.

Having the right support (family, friends, CWE, and yes, neurologists) while tackling epilepsy makes a huge difference. Congrats on finding a good doctor!

Congrats to you! Finding a good doctor is really important. I am going to a new neurologist next month. I miss my old neuro in Oklahoma. My family doctor has been taking care of me so far since its been a long journey just getting a neurologist in Austin that will see me. Unfortunately insurance has a big part in that one. Anyways- I felt that it was extreamely important to at least find a neurologist and the one I have found is at a hospital specialty clinic and specializes in Epilepsy, not just neurology in general. I hope for a good outcome too.
It is nerve-racking to be going along without a neurologist to talk to. My family doctor isn't used to dealing with neurological conditions at all. He is used to family medicine- colds, flu, child illness etc- not epilepsy. He didnt know what a complex partial seizure was. He knew the basics and I was thankful for that even thought it scared me that he didn't know how to dose my meds I was currently taking. I had to explain it to him...
Anyways- good luck with your new Epileptologist. You are fortunate to have one.

Take care,
Crystal

All.....thanks for the comments. Crystal I was just lucky to live in a region with an Epileptologist (wish I could remember that term) and I only found out about him because my wife works with a man who goes to him.

I hope you can get one to see you and that you find the care that helps. Also I wanted to say that I am not bragging about finding someone. It has been almost 2yrs since the 1st grand mal and my wife and I are just so relieved that we have someone we trust. It really gave her and I hope.
