Hi all, thought I would continue to keep you all updated.

I had my first EEG done today. I had to stay up all night last night to sleep deprive myself so Im feeling really tired at present.

So.. the EEG. I was to try and fall asleep during it since most my episodes happen as im about to fall asleep (tingling, foot spasm, jolting in stomach, feeliing as though Im going to be sucked out my body etc)

Unfortunatly I couldnt manage to fall asleep despite how tired I was, I think i was too anxious.

However, something did happen that I was not expecting, and it really scared me.

At the start of the EEG, lights were turned out, i had to close my eyes, and strobe lights were flashed in my face (wasnt expecting this) I semed to be ok for a few moments, but as it got faster, i started jerking. Not bad, not like a tonic clonic seizure.. but my arm and leg jerked maybe 6 or 7 times, and i felt like my stomach jerked too.

The lady who did hte EEG was not a neurologist, I was very scared when this happened, but i tried to stay focused and just let her do the test, I wont get my results until next week when I see the neurologist.

Im wondering if the jerking was normal ? I should have asked her, but I didnt, at the time I was jerking she must haev noticed how I was and was asking me to try relax and breathe.

If this jerking is not normal .... will it show on the EEG ?

I relaly didnt expect a reaction like this, and while it was happening i was afraid i was going to go into a tonic clonic seizure (I had these as a child)

thanks all.

I had my EEG in May. I was very fortunate in that the tech explained everything to me ahead of time...and then went on them in detail as he was doing it. He warned me extensively about the strobe lights and at the time, they did not bother me, but now they do.
I know it must have been rough going, but hopefully that will be helpful to the results in helping you. I hope you gets some well deserved rest tonight.

Yes. Sounds seizure related and will almost certainly show up on the EEG. could be simple partial or myoclonic. The jerking is definitely not normal. I feel the tech should have told you beforehand instead of flashing you with the lights straight away but anyway what's done is done.I was lucky to have an excellent tech. When he saw an absence seizure being recorded , he quickly asked me "what's your name?" . i had to think for about ten seconds before i could answer him. That kind of confirmed the seizure before the EEg report came back. This proves you are photosensitive , and i would avoid strobe lights in the future. Do you get the seizures on waking up in the morning when you're groggy? that's usually the case with myoclonic seizures.Keep us posted , and all the best

Hi all, thankyou for the replies.

Feeling better today. Spoke with the receptionist of my neurologist to rearrange my next app, she said if anything not normal shows he will call me before then.. I keep expecting my phone to ring, but it hasnt even been 2 days yet, so trying to be patient.

I have had weird things happen as im waking up, but its almost usually as Im falling asleep. My symptoms have never really included this jerking from what I remember. My symptoms have been different.

Im a little dissapointed that what normally happens to me didnt, but at least something did... so they can see something is wrong... I really need to get to the bottom of all this.

I looked up the myoclonic seizure, and it appears this is exactly what happened to me. Im pretty sure it will show on the EEG, i cant see why it wouldnt, however my concern is ... is this neurologist good at reading EEGs ?

I guess I will find out...

keep you posted.... thanks for the links
