I was diagnosed over a year and a half ago, and have been learning a lot about seizures. It still surprises me, though. I'm still recognizing some strange things and wondering if they are seizures. Here are the latest:

I read something, actually see the words in print and know what they mean. I look back at it in a few seconds and the words are different and it says something completely different.

I suddenly realize I've been just staring at the computer screen and not really seeing it for god knows how long, like I've been hypnotized. My eyes were locked on it. I wasn't unconscious, but my memory is fuzzy. I have no idea if I could have looked away.

I know I have olfactory seizures where I smell weird stuff when there is nothing to smell. Lately I've been smelling things wrong. Not everything smells wrong, just some things. Like car exhaust smells like chlorine. Marinara sauce smells like rotten cabbage. My dog smells like flowers. I'm not sure if this is a seizure because it will last as long as the smell is there. I just know something in my brain is scrambled.

All very odd. TLE is odd. I think that why it saps so much of my energy. All this stuff is making me one confused puppy.

I get the smell of slightly stale garlic. You know like when you've been using it to cook and then the smell lingers on your hands? Sort of like that.

I also do the thing with the computer too, or in books where i find that i've read the same page/line about 3 times, and still have no clue what it says!

I think TLE makes it really hard to tell whether what you're experiencing actually is a seizure or not... or at least that's how i feel about it.

My neuro described this the other day as subclinical seizures. She said I'm having a lot of them.

Yeah, I'm finding my tle very draining, too *sigh* And also very hard to explain to other people, because it's happening inside your head and nobody else can see it (no physical seizures that anyone can relate to).

I don't get the olfactory auras, but that would worry me...

TLE is hard work!

How about box cake mixes that smell like cat pee after they bake! Have to make from scratch now

I suppose if my son ever says something out of the ordinary I need to pay attention. Wow I learn more everyday.

I have noticed that many times a food does not smell like I know it should. Or it smells close but when I taste it the food is awful. Yesterday was funny in a sad way. We won tickets to the circus but when I was talking at work about it I called it the zoo. Even today I have to force myself to say circus not zoo. TLE can really keep life replete with uniqueness.
