Hi Everyone!

In my introduction I mentioned my doctor ordered long term video monitoring test in the hospital in Buffalo NY. The initial order were called in to the hospital on October 17th 2011. Since then my doctors office called the Hospital twice, left message and they still did not call back. Now I am aware of the fact, that is only 8 bed for the whole Western New York area, but this is normal????? Do I need to change doctor? Do I need to move to different part of the US? Maybe to different country? Or maybe to the moon, at least there I would know why no one cares???????
Need help what to do.
Thanks,
Pastor Thomas
May God bless you all!

Hey, Pastor Thomas.

A long wait for your actual eeg isn't unusual, but they should at least have called you back to make an appointment. I had to wait about 3 or 4 months for my video eeg.

You've done all the right things - you've called, your doctors office has called. One more step you may want to try is if your hospital has an ombudsman or patient liason - call and see if they can help. If that doesn't work out, then call the hospital's quality department, or better yet, write. That will put a whole string of events in motion. Hopefully ending in a call and appointment for you.

Over 30 days is simply not acceptable. Endless has given you some good places to begin being "pushy".

Paster Thomas, I know I am a little late to 'the party' but I sense your inner panic...I have been thru the 7-10 day video monitering hospital thing twice. The first time nothing of note happened so they sent me home after five days. The second round came a couple of years later and viola' they finally found what they were looking for. It should be said however that for too many years my doctor preferred to think I was just a nutty woman with a stressful life...(he is no longer my doc :pfft:) Hang in there, yes the tests will give some peace of mind but it won't change how you go foward. You will still need to put one foot in front of the other, learn to accept help from those who love you, and communicate with your doc...if it is not working or feels wrong, speak up and don't wait. There is much to learn and this is a wonderful and supportive place to be...:e:

I guess for me the hardest thing is to accept the limits. I use to be the one, who was always ready to go to help to others. I use to be the one who always said, the day is 24 hours, plus the night! I use to be the one, who was pastoring others, and now, I am asking, who is pastoring the pastor? and why is me? Of course then I reminds myself, what I am always telling the why is the wrong question, there is no answer for that. What is the right question, what is what God want to teach me? Humility, acceptance, slow down. Sounds good, just hard :D Thanks all for the support, this is truly a wonderful and supportive place.

Epilepsy has been a road of many lessons. For me it was learning true unconditional love, but I found that I needed to be open to accept it. My husband of thirty plus years had his work cut out for him as I was, shall we say rather 'independent' and am still quite opinionated, I think he calls it, 'sassy'. I had to learn to let others love me...warts and all. (I was thirty five when I had my first seizure.) My teenage daughter became my gardian, my son was my road to laughter, and my husband was and is my earthly 'rock'. I remember going to a Lenten service that included a 'washing of the feet', it was the hardest thing I had ever done...humility is not a robe I were easily...I guess the Good Lord thought I should work on that.:e:

I know I'll have trouble getting things done with trying to do thngs with drs. It may not just to have tests done but to get appointments, questions answered or if I need some type of referal for some other type of dr, other things and espically getting paper work done. I'll usually end up leaving a message on someone's answering machine and never get a call back.

Now if I don't hear back from them with in a day I've started calling the number that you call to schedule an appointment because there is an 'actual person' that answers the phone. Depending on how soon I need the paper work, appoint, or what ever I'll call every day or even every hour (yes it has gotten to that before). Finally I think they just get so sick of hearing from me that they get what ever it is that I need done so they don't have to hear my voice.

Sometimes the dr can make the appointment right at their office for tests but if not then where the test is going to be taken will call me within a day or two or I'll call them (as you said you have done though) and the test is scheduled then. I've had to wait sometimes around 2 weeks to have the test done but at least the test is scheduled.

To possibly get into have the tests done, as Endless said, is there maybe somewhere else that you could go? I don't know too much about where you can have certain different types of tests done, but maybe if you threaten to go somewhere else the hospital may not want to loose the money from having the test done so they may try to get you in.
