Does Diastat come in a generic form? I did a quick search, some sources say yes, some say no. We have insurance, but I'm still nervous about the potential cost of this!

it may be better for you to talk to a doctor about this as that is really the only way you will get the answer you need

In April I was told it does not. I would love to talk to someone else who has seizures that require this type of intervention. I don't lose all consciousness during my seizures.. I have used Diastat once and started crying as soon as my husband began to administer it. I felt so degraded and traumatized. I can't imagine if someone else had to do it. My neuro has always prescribed Ativan IM injections for the same purpose. Not ideal but we were able to teach our 15 yr old son, my mother and sister how to inject me. I also can do it myself if I have a strong aura. How long do yours last? Do you lose consciousness fully every time? Do you have to go to hospital after administration? i do not but a pharmacist told me that's unusual. What is your recovery like?

It's actually for my 9 year old son. He doesn't lose consciousness and his seizures are simple partial seizures, most likely Benign Rolandic Epilepsy. He has every classic symptom of BRE. He has only had 2 seizures and they have both been very short in duration. He has no recovery time and once the seizure is over, it's over and he's 100% fine. All of those lend themselves to BRE, but the EEG pattern wasn't definite for BRE, so he's being cautious. It's been 11 weeks since his last seizure, knock on wood, and the script is mostly for when he goes back to school as he will be about half an hour from a hospital. I worry about the effect it would have on him if it had to be administered at school. He would be MORTIFIED, but with his seizure history, it's unlikely that he'd have a seizure that would last long enough to need it, again....knock on wood.

Just went to the pharmacy and they do have generic. He said that without insurance, it's like $400, I think. I paid $100 for it. Way better than what I was expecting!!
