I know that I have to wear a mask and it lasts about an hour and a half. I cant do any exercise tonight and can not eat anything but protein. No food after 6 am and no water tomorrow.

Can anyone share their experiences with this test?

I've had several MRIs and EEGs and CT scans. I've never had a PET scan. I've heard they are typically used for research purposed only because they are very expensive. I'm curious what the point of a PET scan is for epilepsy.

I've had both, but not together. I don't know if that's why you have to wear a mask because I didn't have to wear one.

I had a PET of my brain in preparation for surgery. They had me sit in a quiet, dimly lit room in a nice recliner to relax for about 30 minutes, then they came in and injected the radioactive tracer, then let me sit quietly for another 30 minutes. They want you to have as little stimulation of sight, sound, sensation, emotion, etc. as possible before you get in the machine so that they can get a more accurate reading of blood flow in the brain. Once you're in the machine, it's like being in an MRI except that (in my case anyway) there was no visor, and absolutely no noise. Some people might prefer it to an MRI because it is so quiet and relaxing, but I found the absolute quiet to be annoying. There was nothing to concentrate on to pass the time.

P.S.
I just now saw that you posted this last night so you have probably already had the test. But I wonder how things went for you. Let us know. :)

The test was super easy. I was expecting it too be loud like the usual brain scan I get every couple of years. Hopefully the next step will be getting my RNS!

Hello Karen
Keep us filled in. I would be curious to see if you are approved for the RNS & how things progress after approval.
Good luck with everything
Ed
