I have had epilepsy for 32 years. Most of that time on Dilantin. Over the past several years things have just gone down hill and I can not figure it out!
Medications are Dilantin 300 mg, Topamax 450 mg, and the newly added Klonopin 1.5 mg.

The Klonopin was added to help with my speech, it seems as if I am losing the ability to speak and I can't figure it out. The Klonopin is not working still having speech issues and they are so embarrassing. It is almost like the message from my brain to my mouth gets mixed up, quite painful for others to watch.

Any help would be awesome!
Thanks

Hello Maddie38 and welcome to the community! I have not had any experience with those drugs, but I am sure someone here has. That is the great thing about this site, there is always a person to help out! I hope that you feel better soon and your speech issues are figured out.

Hi Maddie,

The speech issue could be from Topamax. This AED is also known as "Dopemax" and can cause speech/memory problems. Talk to your neurologist.

I take 200 mgs. now along with Keppra, but at one time my neuro had me on a higher dose and I could not remember what I was talking about mid-sentence. It was very frustrating.

Thank you

Thank you both for taking the time to reply. I am truly a mess and can not figure it out.
Losing your ability to speak is stressful along with all the other seizures I have. Well my journey continues if speechless it still continues.

Many Thanks,
Maddie
