Hey lakeside5, welcome to CWE!

I don't know if a CWE member has had heart surgery lead to grand mal seizures, but maybe someone will chime in. Have you seen a neurologist since the surgery? Have you been put on anti-seizure meds?

I found some articles that might be of interest:
http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/22065333
http://www.loyolamedicine.org/heart...res-and-other-neurologic-complications-loyola
http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/21256303

They suggest that there can be a variety of seizure triggers related to cardiac surgery, including microembolisms (clots that are released during the surgery) and the use of a particular clotting-related agent called tranexamic acid.

I have a read a couple of articles on the TA drugs. By cardiac doctor is not saying anything.was put on keppa 500 bid for my first two seizures, was taken to er the next time had a total of two, one prior to arriving and one in er. Been told really did nothing but sent me home, nothing change with meds. Got an appointment with new neuro dr., in the mean time I am taking 3, 500 mg daily.

I hope the new neurologist is helpful. Definitely make sure the neuro is aware of the possible issues with the cardiac surgery. How are you feeling on the keppra?

feeling ok

Feeling ok..other than this has changed my life, can no longer be left alone with my grandson, no driving, I hate this. Would have never had the surgery if I had known this was happen

Keppra can sometimes mess with mood, so if you're feeling unusually depressed or angry, keep that in mind. You've got plenty of reason to feel upset, of course. I hope the new neuro gets you on a happier, healthier track.
