A paper stating Im summoned to be on a grand jury! Freaking Great!

There are possible ways to get out of it....

Like having a dr send in a note... but what would my dr put down? "Kristin is taking a anti seizure medication, which is controlling her seizures". So? Who cares. Like they would see that as a reason to not take me?

SO I had to fill out the form and send it in.

But I did have to put down that my husband works for the dept of corrections, which is classifed as Law Enforcement. So that could possibly get me out of it.

I dont want to do this! :paperbag:

i in uk,i was called up for jury sevice i just declined, told them due to e i could not give garentee i would not have seiziour or server head ache...it come down to saying 2plus 2 is 4 but sometime 2and 2 could be anything,if i just lost second or two and it not be fair on everyone

I think the time commitment for a Grand Jury can be longer than regular Jury Duty, so yeah, it would be great if you could defer...

Here in Texas you can be exempt for having small children at home.

I've gotten out of plenty. Even if I've fibbed a little once all 3 were already in school. :p

I would love jury duty! Why does everyone in the states hate it so much? I think it would be interesting and fun. I am seriously waiting for my chance to do it. Although I literally know only 2 people who ever had to do it. So it doesnt happen often here. because you can choose a jury of your peers or just a single judge. most people just pick the judge.

I always get to get a note from my doctor because I have too many seizures. Although, it would be kinda fun to see what it's like.

Rae, I did go one time. It was here in Richardson, instead of downtown Dallas. NO WAY am I driving way down there. Crazy traffic and with all the 1 way streets, I'll easily get lost. :p

The local jury duty was close enough to walk. Wasn't very exciting tho, it was only for unpaid traffic violations. Fun experience and we were out of there in 45 minutes.

I have to mail in the form I had to fill out and I guess I will see what they have to say. They gave a few reasons you can avoid having to go...

Getting a note from a dr about a medication condition, which the dr will have to mail to me and give to them within 10 days

Or anyone who is over the age of 65...

And I think there was one more other thing listed... I cant recall what it is... I;ll have to look at the paper I got.

But my father in law said he gets them all the time. because he worked in the corrections for 27 years, they didnt let him do any jury duty. It asks If Im related to anyone in law enforecement, so I had to put down my husband since he works for the dept of corrections. So maybe that will do for it for me? I guess I will just have to wait and find out!

They say they are doing Jury selection at the end of November

I don't know that I've ever received such a notice. But I can just imagine how it would go...

"Jurist has seizure in the middle of the trial."

"Was an entertaining break from the dull case," stated a courtroom witness.

Yeah thats what I told my husband! Heck if it has anything to do with stress... that and lack of sleep causes my seizures to come about!

With my luck I'd get a major drama-news case. People with cameras, etc. I start crying in the middle of it or have a partial and can't talk.

The can't talk partials are esp frustrating to me and only furthers the seizure level.

Well I would think the doctors note would make enough sense to the case. If you have no choice and have to go, just make sure you are well rested.

I know exacly how you feel when it comes to those freaking partial seizures! I feel the same way during them. Not having any control over what is going on, yet you can hear what people are saying, see what they are doing... but you can do anything to respond back til its all over. Thats the part I hate the most about them. And yet having to feel everything... gosh the fear, sadness, the numbness and tingling... and the stomach feeling I get... I cant stand it!

Well, Im just going to hope I dont have to do it. But If I do... then I will make sure to get plenty of rest! Heck the hubby even said he would get a note from the judge saying that since I have to go, he would have to be the one to stay with the kids. He would need a note for his work. LOL I looked at him, and said..."Yeah it benefits you!".... of course he had a big "smart ass" smile on his face!:roflmao:

See he needs you in so many ways, you're irreplaceable! :adore:

You're right! He even made that very comment to me a few minutes later! LOL After we made supper, I said, "who would be so nice like myself to clean up after cooking breakfast for dinner?"

His reply.... "Only you.... I need you for everything!"..... :roflmao:

Sounds like a very smart man!!!

Most of the time he is... but then he gets those times where his mind kind of goes "blank" and he needs to be plugged back into the "Know it all" ...... (ME) :roflmao:  To charge him back up again! :roflmao::rock:

I had always wanted to do jury duty, but was never summoned...until right after brain surgery to remove a tumor. I wrote on the little response card that I had recently had a craniotomy, then thought, "Yeah, right; they'll really believe that." :p So I just made a copy of the sheet that you sometimes get at the doctor's with all the codes for the procedures. I highlighted the name of the practice - Neurosurgical Institute; reason for office call - post-surgical consult; diagnosis - oligodendroglioma; follow up notes - set up appointment with oncologist and physical therapist, MRI in three months. I got an immediate "You're excused" No official doctor's note needed.:D

I haven't been called up for jury duty yet & don't think I do want to because I don't know if I could concentrate for such a long period of time trying to take in all the information involved with the case.
My Mum did jury duty once about 8 years ago. When she did it she asked the lady who took their details what happened if I was called up & explained about my epilepsy. The lady told Mum that if I ever was called up all I had to do was get a letter from my neuro explaining that I had epilepsy, how stress & tiredness affects my seizures & that should get me out of it.
