i know i have posted about this before but im getting desperate now, does anyone know any shampoos anything that will stop my hair falling out? this keppra and its side affects are getting ridiculous. my left eyebrow is starting to fall out now, i can notice it but dont know if anyone else can. i want to try other meds that wont make my hair fall out. Has anyone tried the hormone tablets for seizures that happen round your monthly cycle?

Hair loss that bad with a drug is known as drug induced aloepecia. And can be permanent if left too long. A friend of mine has gotten steroid shots in her head to help her hair re-grow because of her treatments for Grave's Disease. She still has a large bald spot that she hides with a lipstick type colouring and strategic hair placement.

I'd be worried about hair growth shampoos. You wouldn't want to grow hair on anywhere else the shampoo touches

I only want it for my hair. I would only put it in my hair. Anything that will stop my hair falling out. I am defo gna try the hormone meds see if they make any difference. Whats them shots your friend gets in her head? do they work?

I've started using the minoxodil (rogaine) again and I'm praying it will work this time.

My friend has been selling me on the benefits of wigs.
* never a bad hair day
* hardly ever have to wash it
* a haircut and a shave is literal (on head)
* i can pretend to be Cher, or Marilyn Monroe
* tons of hair fixed any way i want. just drop it off at the beauty parlour and pick it up later.

I looked at wigs and the price varies wildly. There are cheap $35 wigs that are obviously wigs. They don't even look like a mannequin's hair. A medium-price, decent looking fake wig is about $125. A real hair wig is about $200 and up, with top of the line ones going for almost $2000. I've seen them cheaper on the internet, but that's how much they are at our local walk-in store. Believe it or not, they need to fit you to a wig.

I'm like you. I don't want it to get that far.

Im going to ask to try the hormone tablet. As my seizures seem to be happening at rhe tym of the month.UOTE]that wont make my hair fall out. Im not a wig. I wud rather put up wi the side affects of th seizures. Where no 1 will knw and i will still have my hair

If keppra isn't helping your seizures, maybe try a new drug and fin out if the hair loss is from keppra or if you are developing aleopecia. I'll get in touch with my friend and see if she knows the nae of the steriod they use.

Also as far as wigs go, its actually really easy to custom fit your own

It cant b alopecoa because its my eyebrows and my eyelashes adwell. A few pplhave commented with keppra. Im having other side affects to it isnt just the keppra. But my neuroligist is getting me to see a dermotoligist to see if is defo th keppra. As for the wig i would rather put up with the seizures n habe my hair thabn a wig. Yes please do ask ya friend. It would be much appreciated.

Lamictal seems to be doing the same to my hair and having dr change my meds. I will suffer through acne, nightmares, etc...but I can't lose my hair. So, I feel your pain!!!

I wanna stop taking my meds asy seizures only happen in my sleep so no 1 need know. Its my eyebrowd and eyelashes to as well as mamy other side affectd. Th doc said summit bout hormone tablets as mine seem to be th same every month. So hopefully this will b ok. But i got to wait till next month to see him. My neuroligist just dont seem bothad at all. He basically said ur having seizures take these tablets. My brain scan and eeg came bavk normal but he wony send me for a night eeg. It would make more sense to do that as they only happen in my sleep wudmt it?

I know how you feel. I take Keppra too and with every increased dose I lose more hair. But my hair loss isn't bad enough to be intolerable - hopefully after you see the dermatologist and they probably confirm it is a side effect, your Dr. will discuss other options with you. I have had different side effects with all three meds I've tried - they're definitely not the easiest things to take, are they? But the dermatologist may have a solution for the hair loss while you're still on the Keppra - if so, please keep us posted! And keep your head up!

Thanks kzainos. I know it sucks doesnt it? im having just about every sidr affect there is but the doctor wont accept it he thinks its stress. Somedays i just wanna gibe up and just put up with the seizures. The doc has put me on the pill to see if my seizures are only happening same tym every month. They only happen in my sleep. Epileosy sucks dont it? feel free to talk with me anytym.

Crazychick, I worked for years as a medical assistant and there are many wonderful doctors out there, but they are often overworked, and sometimes attribute stuff to "stress". A couple years ago my mother had a medical problem that her Dr. tried to attribute to stress and he wanted her to see a psychiatrist. I did some research on her symptoms and told her to ask him to test her for celiac disease, which is exactly what she had. The psychiatrist wouldn't have been able to do a thing for her. Moral to the story is never just accept what your Dr. says if it doesn't seem right to you - ask further questions if you feel you need to.

It does seem like your Dr. is trying to look at other options though, which is good. Unfortunately, any of us that have to take meds for epilepsy have to deal with side effects - I guess it's just about finding the meds that will both control your seizures while having side effects you can deal with.

thanx kzainos, i have got a list of questions im going to ask the neuroligist, these are obv not the right meds for me yes there controlling my seizures but the side affects i cant deal with, i think i know whats causing my seizures, i havent actually been diagnosed with epilepsy or what seizures im having as there not sure if i actually have epilepsy as its inbetween. i saw 4 diferent doctors they all told me it was stress until the last doctor unerstood and really heped me, he listened to me and discussed options with me so lets hope its what i think it is amnd i can get off this horrible keppra. thanx for ya advice i really appreciate it.

Hi crazychick, when you see your neuro you might want to direct him to the info at this link: http://www.medscape.com/viewarticle/447790_3 or print it out to give him. I think you said he mentioned hormone tablets at one point. The info here may "jog his memory", and suggest a treatment that may be more effective than the bc your regular doc gave you.

thanx nakamova im going to ask him if i can try the hormone tablets i just hope they dont have side affects like the keppra is having on me. i have a list of questions im going to ask him. lets hope i get sorted out. thanx for the link il defo have a look.

Try Biotin

My hair was coming out by the handful. I was taking both keppra and lamictal at the time. I tried biotin (a B vitamin) and it stopped and I could see new growth. I am 53 and post menopausal. Just thought I would put in my 2 cents for an alternative.

I tried biotin and it didnt work for me am in vut b multi vits cod liver oil im not sure if there helpinh

Sorry to hear that. In case it matters, I did take a daily large dose-- 5mg. Good luck. It seems like everything about epilepsy, its treatments and aftermath, is one big experiment for all of us.

im not sure what dose i was taking, i have days where i feel ok but if i dont eat at regular times and its somethin with quite a lot of sugar in i feel funny i go light headed and feel like im going to collapse, i dont know if it could be diabetes. i do take a lot of vitamins vit b complex multivitamins, vitamins and minerals cod liver oil tablets and the doc put me on the pill aswell. i feel so medicated up.
