I currently take 200 mg Tegretol XR and 100 mg regular Carbamazepine twice a day. I have taken Tegretol (brand) since 1986 or 1987 in varying doses. I am trying to get off Tegretol all together eventually. The short story is I can't afford the brand the way insurance companies charge so much more for brand than generic.

I would say proceed with caution if you are at all sensitive to minor shifts in medication or in your medication schedule. I've gone from brand Lamictal to generic without any problems, but I don't tend to be sensitive that way.
