i had a seizure in the dentist office yesterday. It was kinda of weird because I didn't feel it coming on at all.I was just getting my teeth cleaned and i wasn't in any pain or nervous at all. Just kinda felt as if I was day dreaming and when I came out of it three people were in the room looking at me. I was very shaky afterwards and they called my husband to get me. I had another one when I got home. The only thing that I noticed is that I was really tired all day.
The dentist said it lasted about a minute and that my eyes were blinking really fast and that was it.
I dont know if I should go through all the testing again for them to do nothing and say they are not really seizures. What do you guys think ?

Tests may show no epilepsy (even MRI/EEGs etc), what if a seizure occurred when you are driving or somewhere/anywhere you could potentially hurt yourself...

my thoughts, definitely back to the doc and preferably referral to neurologist or even better an epitologist if possible.

accept nothing other than a full review until diagnosed or explanation given. if these are not seizures then what’s going on and they better have an explanation and a plan in place to help you..

If you have read my pasts posts I have seen a neuro and they took me off meds that were working because a three day eeg showed no abnormal brain activity. They even went as far as to write a letter to my primary doctor telling her not to put me on any seizure meds. i rarely have seizures during the day unless I am in pain or having blood drawn. Although I have had seizures during the night often.
I dont think I would have even known I had a seizure yesterday except that the dentist told me I did, so i guess i could be having others like that and not know it. years ago i had two tc type seizures in a row while sitting in our motorhome. My neice and nephew saw me and told me i was convulsing.sorry I'm kinda rambling on. i cant seem to concentrate on what I'm writing

horsehead, you need to find different doctors -- the ones who ignore your symptoms and rely solely on the EEG results are at best ill-informed and at worst incompetent.

Yes i think i do.I have already been to the university and I'm not sure where else to go

This is your well being and you cannot be pushed around/pushed aside by one neurologist, completely and utterly unacceptable and they cannot write you off.

Neurologists deal with the many various brain disorders, but not the epitologist (epitologist = E expert). Some Neurologists are great with their E patients, but this cannot be said for all.

Do not accept this. If you need 2nd/3rd and 4th opinion, you are WORTH it...This is your life and we only get one round. How dare they. Time to go to battle.

Could you get referral to an epitologist?

Horsehead...
I am so sorry you are getting jerked around!
I can't believe that neurologist went so far as to write to your primary!
Especially if your meds were working you'd think that would point them in the right direction.
EEGs don't always show seizures. They only capture what is going on the surface and not what might be happening deep within.
You need to have at least your primary believe in you and direct you to proper care.
It took me 4 neurologists and four years to finally get referred to a epilepsy clinic.
Stay strong!

I agree with the others, I would be seeing a different dr too. I went in for my first VEEG a year ago and they did say I had some epileptic activity seen on the EEG, but when I was having some of the seizures, they were not registering. So just cause its not showing up on a eeg, doesnt mean you dont have epilepsy. I started reading more on how seizures can be too deep within your brain for a EEG to pick them up. As the months went on, and I was kept on keppra, I was told by drs that if those seizures were not indeed epileptic seizures, the keppra wouldnt stop them from coming. the only kind of seizures keppra stops, is epileptic seizures.

That is what I was taking, kepra. I believe I was also on klonapin, not sure if I spelled that right. They did work I didn't have any seizures untill they took me off it for the eeg. I started having seizures again a day and a half after they took me off the meds.I had them everyday after that for almost a month,if i remember right.

Anybody know how to heal the inside of your cheek. i must have bit it the other day and it is really bothering me.

Can antibiotics cause you to have more seizures ? I had another one last night and I really dont feel right today.

Some antibiotics can increase the risk of seizure: isoniazid, lindane, metronidazole, nalidixic acid and penicillin. A vitamin B6 supplement taken along with these antibiotics can reduce the chances of a seizure.

Regarding your sore cheek: Anbesol might help too.

i was taking penicillin now I'm on levofloxacin, does that one increase the risk?

The official drug info for Levofloxacin says:
Levofloxacin should be used with caution by anyone who has had a seizure or has a condition that makes seizures more likely.
Of all the fluoroquinolones, Levofloxacin is considered to have the least potential for causing seizures. That doesn't mean it won't cause them, just that it's less risky than other comparable antibiotics.

thanks for the info. I had two more seizures last night. The only thing I can think of is the antibiotic causing my seizures to increase.

Yes, sounds likely. I hope you are feeling okay.

feeling a bit "fuzzy" if that makes any since. My head neck and shoulders are tingling. Also have a bad headache. Thanks for all your replies.
