A dr pescribed Imatrex for me for headaches and I mentioned it on here and said that it didn't help. Someone suggested another type of med to ask the dr for and I thought I saved the message but I guess I didn't.

Does anyone remember what that med was?

Thanks

Propranolol is use sometimes to prevent migraines. It works pretty well for a lot of people. It's a beta blocker that is also used for hypertension. I have no idea what the mechanism is that makes it work for both, but I suspect it has something to do with changing or preventing the dilation of blood vessels to the brain. <Calling Dr. Arvindr... Calling Dr. Arvindr.... Help with explanation, please.>

A migraine headache is a form of vascular headache. Migraine headache is caused by vasodilatation (enlargement of blood vessels) that causes the release of chemicals from nerve fibers that coil around the large arteries of the brain. Enlargement of these blood vessels stretches the nerves that coil around them and causes the nerves to release chemicals. The chemicals cause inflammation, pain, and further enlargement of the artery. The increasing enlargement of the arteries magnifies the pain.
