Hello,

Happy New Year! I was diagnosed with epilepsy 9 months ago. After multiple meds that were not working well I was sent to an epilepsy study. They found out that my heart was stopping and inserted a pacemaker. They did not find any evidence of seizure activity. So, now the question is....am I epileptic?

I ALWAYS had an aura before my heart stopped. Now, I still have the auras, but then my pacemaker kicks in and I do not pass out. I am trying to figure out if there are true epileptic auras or if there is something else at work here. The auras increase greatly during my menses or when I am sick.

The dr.s are not sure what to tell me. Some feel I am imagining it, others don't know what to say but want me to wait and see what happens over the next few months.

Ideas???? Thoughts???? Thanks,
Erin

Hm... well, I'm no doctor, and I can't explain the heart stopping. However, it would seem you are still having some type of epileptic activity if you are still having auras, especially if it's at certain types of month/when you are sick. I know the week before my time of the month, I always have an increase in auras. When you were passing out, were you having SEIZURES, or just passing out? They might be completely unrelated if you weren't having seizures when you were passed out. If the passing out was also related to seizures, your medications might be working (even if you're still having partial seizures). I've been on medications since my last tonic/clonic, and I haven't had another, but I still have auras (though they have decreased significantly).
