Hello CWE, I've read from here a few times and it always seems helpful and supportive.
I've had seizures about 4-5 times a year for 5 years, and out of all the doctors i've seen, none of them will diagnose me with epilepsy. They call it a "Seizure Disorder"
It's going to be nice having someone who knows how I feel to talk to. Thanks for listening, and tty soon.

Hey

I'm in the same exact boat on the diagnosis. "Undiagnosed seizure disorder" first it was the Dilantin levels too low, then had a seizure with levels in the norm, now I'm on Keppra and Dilantin. Keppra makes me remember my dreams, wicked side effect. Well, welcome I've found help easy to come by here, I'm still pretty much a newbie to the sight and I only just had my 1st seizure's 2nd anniversary, NOT the one u want to celebrate.

And if you have a side on the issue of "gun control", we had a nice heated discussion going before Cathy dropped the mod hammer. Thread is still live but everyone seemed to cool off. I'd call her a killjoy but she kinda gave me props on a post :X

Welcome and best of luck

Thanks for the welcome

I've researched Keppra, and always seemed to find negative things about it. It was offered to me as an alternative to Tegretol, but I declined.
Is it really that bad other then remembering the dreams?

I was a groggy mess for 3 days, but that's how ALL my side effects have been for my meds. My body gets used to it fairly quickly and it's just another pill to take twice a day, I've never taken anything other than the 2 RXs I take now, and once I was on them I was never taken off so I can't really speak intelligently on any differences.

But to give my opinion, I don't think it's that bad. The first week sucked, I'm only on week 2 and I've gotten over the initial grogginess. Today was a good day. I didn't feel like taking a nap which was a nice change so if this takes the same course as dilantin did, I'm back on track to being a "normal" kid with a seizure disorder.

I haven't even been to the doctor yet since he RX'd me Keppra. He phoned it in to the pharmacy after my last seizure when my Dilantin level was at (12). The appointment is on the 31st, so I'm not sure if this is going to be a 15 minute "how you feeling? good you? good. cool. see ya." or an actual visit, we shall see.

Hi Jerrad, welcome to CWE. A great place for support and encouragement.

Sounds like normal seizure meds, Keppra is almost the only one I haven't tried yet. Maybe I'll dabble and see how it fits me.
Thanks for the info man.

I'm on keppra, it's not toooo bad, felt a bit "high" for a while, sometimes I don't sleep, and the dreams are very memorable. But I don't mind the crazy dreams. Welcome to CWE I'm new to and found some great info. Ella

Welcome to cwe!

I've taken dilantin, tegretol, vimpat and keppra...keppra is the only one I've tolerated and it drastically reduced my daytime tc's. We had to play around with the dosage for a few months before we got it right.

Speaking of crazy dreams, I'm coming off of a bad cluster and I had this dream the other morning...

Background-I had my tubes tied at age 22, have never birthed children, but did adopt a daughter who is an adult now and just had her first child in Oct.

I dreamt that I walked into a room and saw my pregnant daughter and then looked down and saw I was pregnant! I said to her, "What the heck is this (my preg belly) and how the heck did that happen." That's the clean version.

She called me last night and when I told her the dream she got a huge kick out of it. :taz:

Welcome,

This is a great forum for understanding, support, listening to when you you just have to rant.

Hi

From what I understand 'seizure disorder' is simply a more modern term for 'epilepsy'. They are interchangeable phrases and mean the same thing. I guess it might just be a slow movement away from the outdated stigma that can attach to the term epilepsy, but being told you have one or the other just means the same thing.

Thanks for all of the welcomes guys and gals.
I'm excited to finally have someone to talk to who understands what I'm going through.
Hah, look at that ^ Rhymin' like a BOSS!!!

Hi Jerrad, welcome to CWE!

As Cardones says, "seizure disorder" and "epilepsy" are basically one and the same. Whatever you call it, we've got it here at CWE, and are glad you've joined our merry crew.

Best,
Nakamova
