Hi everyone. As I am new to this forum i will start here.

Since i was born, once or twice in month i can get day when strange things happend to me. In those days i get an several strange„emotional attacks“. This fealing i would describe as fealing very similar to DEJA VO, but 10 times stronger. The seizures themself aren't that bad, but after them i feel very depresed, sad and depersonalizated. They last about 10-20 seconds, and almost always they start in dream at REM. Before 7 years I had “that kind of day” where one attack was stronger than usually. During that attack I got my first (and only) grand mal. This is where my epileptic story starts...
Since then I made all exams I need to (what doctor told me). 100 EEG (everytime normal), CT (normal), psychic test (normal I guess?). I never got an epileptic diagnostics, but surfing the internet I read a lots of articals and stuff, so i think I can say that i have „Simple partial seizure” epilepsy? I was never taking drugs or anything. My state haven’t changed since I was 5 years old... In real life I am just 23 year old guy from Croatia’s capital city Zagreb, where I work as software developer in small company and where of course, I hang up with my friends drinking beers and playing guitars...
So here I am with you, where I can share my experience and (was hoping so) to get some advices from people whit same state as me.

First of all I would like to ask few questions.
1. Your global opinion on what I sad... What should I do? Is there a way I can avoid seizure?
2. What I most enjoy at this period of my life is hang up with my friends and drink beer whit them. How can this effect my state, and should I stop doing this?
3. Does anyone know alternative ways or drugs which can deal with this kind of attacks?

Well this is all from me at this time. Best wishes to all of you.

welcome

Nice to see a Croatian. My paternal grandfather was from Croatia.

I spent most of my childhood trying to explain where Croatia was.

Welcome again.

Hi PS, welcome to the forum. :hello:

1. This might help: http://www.coping-with-epilepsy.com/forums/f22/proactive-prescription-epilepsy-1254/

2. alcohol = depressent + sugar. It messes with your brain chemistry and your blood sugar. IMO, yes, you should definitely consider abstinance for a prolonged period (several months) and see if your seizure activity lessens.

3. See the chart linked in my signature below.

Hi PapaSmurf! Welcome to CWE. :) check out the links that Bernard gave. Also, I definitely have to agree with Bernard. Laying off of Alcohol would be a good idea. The same goes for if you drink alot of coffee.

My daughters seizures have been reduced drastically with nutritional changes, vitamins that support brain health, and neurofeedback. She takes no medication.

There are alternatives out there, yet it is a slow, difficult challenge to find one which will help you.

I think you know the answer about the drinking, or you wouldn't have asked.
Use your instincts to figure out the route to take with your "attacks".

First of all , welcome:hello:

1)re: how you can avoid seizures , try to see if there are any events ( sights , smells , flashing lights ,smoking , drinking) which can trigger your attacks. Avoid them as much as you can
2)a couple of beers is OK but switch to milder lagers and try to wean yourself off alcohol altogether slowly.(for some people gluten in their diet can set off seizures , so try gluten free beer) Since it's something you enjoy doing a lot , it will be hard but i feel it will pay off in the long run.I ADVISE YOU TO LAY OFF HARD DRINKS ASAP. NO WHISKY/VODKA/RUM/SCOTCH.a glass of light wine is ok now and then.
3)There are many alternative therapies , like neurofeedback and certain diets .It takes a while to find what works best for you. many people here are on alternative therapies. Give the drugs a chance for a while. If the side effects are too awful , then switch over to alt. therapy. BTW what meds are you on?
I know it's very easy to say that you should quit boozing but it isn't easy. But given that most drugs for epilepsy affect your liver it's the smart thing to do. slow down on the booze and when you feel confident , stop altogether.
I wish you all the best and hope you feel better soon.:)
