Hi all. I am 42 and had a motorcycle accident in 1986 that put me in a coma and left part of my skull cracked open which led me to continue getting spinal meningitis repeatedly for a number of years and several more comas. I had petite-mal seizures regularly for 10 years before I knew what they were. I discovered a diet connection over time and found a strict lecithin ban helped but a few years ago I started having grand-mals and had to seek pharmaceutical aid. I have also struggled with a serious, clinical depression problem that has to be treated with meds. I do not drink or use any drugs and do use vitamins/herbs/supplements (and have for the last 18 years). I now take KeppraXR 1250 mg. daily, that was increased from 500 mg before a couple car accidents. I was able to complete my bachelors at the University of Washington before Keppra. The seizures have abated but I am very concerned about the diminishing mental acuity. I do not work for money. My life is filled with social activities, volunteer work, ART making, and home ownership. I spend lots of time reading and researching literature, art, and health. This web site came up in my search today and I am very excited to meet you. I must say that it started with a search for seizures with Lecithin as I a in great terror of health loss from nutrient deficiency. My goal is to learn all that I can about brain health and share notes with others who may understand. Thanks, Douglas

Hi Dougkas, welcome to CWE!

Many of us have been on similar journeys -- searching for dietary cures that don't bring with them side effects associated with traditional meds. Do you take a B6 supplement? It can sometimes help with some of the keppra side effects.

Another treatment route to consider would be neurofeedback. It might allow you to at least reduce your keppra dosage, and might help with the depression as well. More info here: http://www.coping-with-epilepsy.com/forums/f22/eeg-neurofeedback-501/

Best,
