Hi everyone. I was recently diagnosed with JME. I am a 23 year old mother of two boys. I am taking 1000mg of Keppra twice a day and so far it has kept me from having any more seizures. I'm glad of that, but I don't much like the side effects. I have headaches frequently, I'm so tired, I cry a lot, I'm easily agitated. My appetite is most of the time nonexistent. I've never known anyone with epilepsy, so I feel very alone. I just want to be able to talk to others who have had the same experiences.

Hi eared2009, welcome to CWE!

You've come to the right place -- lots of friendly folks offering terrific empathy and support. One thing to try with Keppra (if you haven't already) is a B6 supplement -- it can help mitigate the side effects.

Best,
Nakamova

I've been taking prenatal vitamins, which have B6, because I tend to prefer them. Would just a B6 supplement be better?

Hi :hello:

This forum has been so helpful for me in many ways. I hope this will be true for you also.

I'm 60. I have simple partial to complex partials seizures. I am on Dilantin and Clonazepam.

I'm sure it will :) just having a place to voice my concerns and frustrations to others who understand will be great.

It was the 1st. time I didn't feel alone. I know people around tried, but can not understand.

Ask any and as many questions as you would like to. Just keep searching like you are already doing to get the help your child deserves.

Welcome! I was 23 when I was first diagnosed and started on meds, and that was almost 30 years ago! My how time flies! This is a good place to be and to get support. It's too bad your Keppra seems to be having those side-effects. Is there a specific reason your neuro put you on Keppra? There are a lot of meds out there, so don't be afraid to tell your doc that you are unhappy with the way you are feeling. Although we all react differently, I hated Keppra for the VERY short time I was on it (less than 2 weeks), and my daughter (who has had e for 8 years) did not do well with it either. She is on Trileptal now with no side-effects, and I am on lamictal and Trileptal. I have never had perfect seizure control, but the meds keep the big seizures away and I have a good life. I can live with the partial seizures that I have.

Learn a lot about meds, don't be afraid to question your doc, and be active and involved in what treatment methods are proposed.

Carry on!

I agree with arnie -- there are other meds out there to try if the keppra side effects are a dealbreaker. You could also consider reducing the dose slightly to see if that helps. In the meantime, you could try a separate B6 on top of your regular supplement to see if it helps at all.
