I finally did it, I need support, It's hard for people without Epilepsy to understand what we go through. I figured there is probably a few here that can help me feel like I'm not alone. I have had epilepy for about 25 yrs now.
No reason for them, Just had a gran mal one night and for the most part the meds control that gran mals. I still have breakthrougsh regularly which usually takes about 3 days to feel "Normal" again. Anyway I just want to say Hi and I'm glad I found this place.

I am glad that you found this place too juli
It is soft place to fall when life gets difficult, or when you just need to have others around that understand. My daughter has had seizures for the past 3.5 yrs, and we seem to be finding non-drug ways to raise her threshold. CWE has been a great support for me. I don't find much help from the convention medical doctors we have been to.

Hi, welcome to our home. I got diagnosed about a year and a half ago and search for more information, I am so thankful to Bernard for creating a wonderful safe haven for us to come vent, support each other and share our experiences.

Welcome JW

Good to have you here, Don't know what else to say that hasn't already been said :ponder:

Thank you!!

Thanks to you all!! I'm excited to have this place to lean too when I have had all I can take. Since I have everyones attention, One question I have is, If stress brings on Seizures then How do I control my stress?? Do u all keep journals of your seizure activity? Alot of times I can relate my seizure activity to things going on in my life but they don't seem that stressful. I know lack of a good nights sleep can also effect me.:ponder:

Welcome JW. I have found listening to a relaxation tape for 20 to 30 minutes daily helps me a lot. I'm glad you've found us.

Stress is such a trigger for a lot of us, and personally I think it is the hardest one to overcome. As my faith is really important to me, I have found prayer and listening to Christian music as calming when I am feeling stressed. I know a lot of others on here have said that their favorite music can help calm them when stressing out. If I am stressing due to an overload...I force myself to sit down and write out what has to be done that day and only focus on my to do list and nothing else. I have also found that if I am overly tired, it will make the stress worse.
I didn't even notice you were a Texan until Cathy pointed it out. We are developing a group of us here...Howdy and welcome to our group!

Journaling is

a great way to help, so is yoga, meditation, powerwalking and just plain ol' exercise. Do whatever suits you...

For me, it's classical music, but it's funny cuz it makes everybody else in the house MAD. :roflmao::roflmao::roflmao:

Hi Juliwitnoe!

I've never been normal...why start now? There are many people without epilepsy who are more eccentric than many of us in this forum.

Personally, I find stress is the biggest contributor to a seizure. Missing medication or an illness are the other major factors for me. I take 800mg of vitamin D3 supplements in addition to regular daily vitamins.

I listen to favorite music, play with my dog, set alarms on my cell phone to take meds and try to keep a positive attitude. My dog has been one of the best investments I made. Now that weather is cooler, we take a 2 hour walk every evening/night. During the summer, we have some pretty intense play sessions in air conditioning. She's a sensitive, affectionate, smart and fun companion.

Welcome to CWE!

Hi Juli, Glad you found your way here! I have tonic/clonic (gran mal) seizures too.
In response to your question, I find that my seizures get worse at "that" time of the month. Beyond that all the usual triggers apply.
Welcome
