Hi there! I'm SOUPfly and it's a pleasure to be here today..or night as of now. I started having micro-seizures when I was around 38 years old and I had hundreds of them a day and at first I wasn't diagnosed right off and my doctor released me from her care. A couple of weeks later I was in a car wreck that nearly killed my family,so I was tested and I passed with flying colors to reveal that I had epilepsy. I have complex/simple partial seizures and I'm on my 7th medication to try & control them, but my neurologist has told me that this was the last medication that he could try...bummer! You'll come to find that I'm not ashamed one bit about my condition and love my life as a stay at home dad. I'm currently writing/typing a book about the struggles & adventures that go along with having epilepsy along with giving folk's some 411 about epilepsy. I'm one who believes that epilepsy is something we have...not who we are or what defines us as individuals. I'm an encourager at heart & I love to encourage people to live out your life to the fullest. I'm looking forward to getting to know you as we travel down this road together. Thanks for the input that you leave on here for other's to read and stay informed about things that you've learned while on this road. Peace, SOUPfly

Soupfly,

Welcome! I'm so happy you found us here in the forum. :)

I'm so sorry to hear about the auto accident. Was your family injured? Or was it just a bad scare? Are they all alright now? How about you?

I'm glad you finally found out about your epilepsy, both to get treatment and to keep you safe. Seventh med? I'm on my fifth. I have a love-hate relationship with my meds. Finally, I think Lamictal is my drug of choice. Sometimes the meds don't completely take the seizures away, but they do prevent them from getting worse, which is a good thing.

There are a bunch of people in here with refractory seizures, and I'm sure they'll chime in, here.

Again, welcome!

Hi Soupfly welcome to CWE!

I love your name. I suppose you're doing the backstroke, right?

I'm so sorry that the meds aren't helping. If you have the option, perhaps you could try neurofeedback. It's helped some people reduce their meds and/or the number of seizures they have. You can read about it here: http://www.coping-with-epilepsy.com/forums/f22/eeg-neurofeedback-501/

Best,
Nakamova

Thank you all for your feedback. 3 of us were injured in the accident: myself, my wife & youngest son were taken to the E.R. by way of an ambulance and my wife sustained some bruising , but my youngest had about 14 stiches altogether in/outside his mouth...OUCH! I was a little sore after the wreck, but other than that everybody was and is okay. I could've killed all of us that day; and it's all because my wife was tired of driving everywhere. We now understand that we have to give her a break..and we certainly do. As far as the meds go I'm taking Vimpat as a last resort med and I've already decided that surgery is out for me. I know it sounds strange to some of you , but I truly believe I've been allowed to have epilepsy for a specific reason. I may never know why, but I have faith in the One who guides my life. I'm truly a blessed man indeed! I'll tell you about the story behind my "SOUPfly" name in another post.
