I've been with epilepsy since a year and a day ago after having my first and so for only grand mal siezure on 9 May 2011. I had a brain tumour removed two years ago in June and continue my nurse training in North Wales. I have got a job after my training in dementia care but want to know more on my condition? I have these strange feelings of nausea and salivation without actually feeling as though a siezure is taking place, it passes very quickly and then does'nt happen for 6 months or so but I have no idea what they are. I see a cons epilepsy doctor next month and hope he's going to give my driving license back ! but wonder if any of you guys have similar experience or is there a definitive indication of when a siezure is imminant that I should look out for? any help would be appreciated

Hi andyel

My daughter is under the hospital in wrexham for her epilepsy, with no reason as to why . Febuary a change in meds (keppra has been added) since then shes experienced seziures evey month . She says she feels like shes on a rollercoster seconds or so before it stikes . Are you taking any medication at present.

Hi yes I'm on keppra 250mg twice a day, wow! what a drug apart from the obvious help it gives me it has some strange side effects, there's a web site called keprage which gives info on some of the more unusual ones. Thanks for your post tho I'll look out for other possible symptoms.

Hi Andyel, welcome to CWE!

If you are having mood-related side effects with the Keppra, consider taking a B6 supplement -- it can sometimes help.

As to the nausea and other strange sensations -- they might be what's called a "simple partial seizure". Sometimes, these kinds of seizures "generalize" and turn into a grand mal seizure, in which case they are considered to be an "aura" or warning sign. But for many people the simple partial seizures are all that happens. It can be useful to keep a journal, and note down any unusual symptoms you experience -- even if you're not sure they're seizure-related -- so you can get a sense of how often they are occurring and if they might be changing in any way.

Here's some info about Simple Partial Seizures:
Simple partial seizures fall into four categories according to the nature of their symptoms: Motor, Autonomic, Sensory or Psychological.

Motor symptoms include movements such as jerking and stiffening.

Sensory symptoms caused by seizures involve unusual sensations affecting any of the five senses (vision, hearing, smell, taste or touch).

Autonomic symptoms are things like racing heart beat, stomach upset, diarrhea, loss of bladder control.

Simple partial seizures with psychological symptoms are characterized by various experiences involving memory (the sensation of deja-vu or jamais-vu), emotions (such as fear or pleasure), or other complex psychological phenomena.
