Hello all! I am 30 years old and have been diagnosed with epilepsy for 9 years. I would say it's about 90% controlled except some auras I get every few days. I used to black out and seize so I can live with the auras since it doesn't affect my life too much though my memory sucks...

I work in the video game industry making games for the XBox 360 and Sony Playstation 3. It's a bit weird working for an industry that induces so many seizures but I've been fortunate enough to still work/play with games without affecting my health. It's been my dream job since high school and I wouldn't let epilepsy get in the way of that.

Anyways, I really don't know anyone with epilepsy so it's nice to be able to talk with people that experience the same pains, frustrations, and challenges I had/have to go through. So thanks for listening and best of luck in conquering this mysterious disease.

My first question! I haven't seen a dentist in over 7 years because I seized once and bit the poor guy's finger. My seizures have been reduced to auras and I still get of an anxiety attack at the thought of seeing a dentist but I need to see one. Do you guys know of any resources, sites, or phone numbers where I can find dentists that work on special needs patients like epileptics?

Thanks and have a great day.

Regards
LakerFan!

Welcome LakerFan
Any chance you have a connection to ACCD?
I am in SoCa and have a softspot for the Lakers myself.. though I don't watch much these days. I don't have epilepsy, but my daughter does.

Your question is a very good one, as I have been ready to jump into this arena again for her. I have been very nervous about the treatment and how it might affect her seizure activity. I can't say she is controlled yet... we are getting there though. Our dentist is also a medical doctor, so I might go at it with that approach. Yet I am unsure about what to ask for, and what will be acceptable to me. She also needs braces, and that much metal in the mouth, seems it would be a dangerous situation, while she is still having tonic clonic seizures.

I am glad that you found us. It is a great resource, and a fine group to be associated with.

Hi LakerFan,

I'm not gonna be of much help to your question I'm afraid, but just wanted to drop by and say hi.

So, welcome aboard - you'll find loads of great advice from great people

Welcome LakerFan! Where do they play football??? You mean there are other sports?

I hope you enjoy our site. I wouldn't hestitate to approach any of your local dentists and ask their opinion. I am sure they will be able to help. You also may try contacting your area epilepsy foundation chapter. This is the type of issue where they can really help sometimes.

OHIO STATE vs USC next September. That should be a great game.

Thanks guys!

I actually went to college in San Diego and am a huge Chargers fan :) UCSD didn't have much of a football program so I play it by ear..mainly rooting for anybody that plays USC.

You are doing it Hawke... I am out the door.
Motivation is always a good help. Thanks
