Hello. I have had Temporal lobe epilepsy for a long time now, But until over a year ago I had not been fully diagnosed and had been unmedicated. Truthfully my life has been a bit of a blur, only small bits standing out to me. Is that common? I didn't really think of what was happening as seizures. I have not had a physical seizure to my knowledge. I have had black outs, rage attacks, painful dipression, and the worst seizure, at least I think it was a seizure, was when I had what I guess was a panic attack. It involved a deep fear of death and it lasted over a week. I never thought I was crazy, but I always felt bad and weak willed over the lose of emotional control. A lot of times I would find myself yelling without feeling rage. It was only due to a symptom of what my doctor called a smell aura that I was able to be diagnosed without an ekg. But now after some trial and error, I am taking oxcarbazepine. I'm starting to be able to cope a bit better, and I have a lot less anxiety.

:hello: Xion!

Temporal Lobe Epilepsy is quite common and
probably the most commonest form of Epilepsy
that is out there.

I recommend you to read up on:
EPILEPSY 101
for starters ...

Welcome

to CWE ObjeXioN. I"m sure you'll appreciate it here. I've learned more here about my epilepsy in a year than I have in my previous 46 years.

It is common for seizures to effect memory. I forget lots of things around the time of a seizure. Some things I might remember a few days or even a week later, other things are totally forgotten.

Do you mean convulsion when you say "physical seizure"? Remember not all seizures are convulsive.

I'm conscious during my seizures but I have blacked out. I'll be walking down the street & when I come out of it I'm half a block up from where I remember being. The scariest was when I came out of it & I was in the middle of an intersection. I know especially when I was younger that my seizures were definitely tied to emotions. I'd be in a really good mood then I'd have a seizure & my mood would change. The difference is that what my mood changes to is always different. I can come out of one & feel any which way. I find that as I get older the change in how I feel before & after the seizure gets less & less.

I"ve never had any sort of experience like what you've had with the extreme fear of death. or panic attacks though I do tend to stress out over very small things sometimes.

The people here are pretty good. I"m sure someone else will have something more to say. Meanwhile have a coffee  & check out the rest of the site. A great place to start is here at http://www.coping-with-epilepsy.com/forums/f23/epilepsy-101-part-faq-part-tips-advice-1255/. If you have any more questions don't be shy to post more questions.

Hi ObjeXioN, welcome to the forum. :hello:

Make yourself at home here. :)

Thanks for the reception. I will look around the forums more and figure out what I want to do. Its hard for me to talk about things some times. Also I must go to sleep soon.

Welcome Objexion

My daughter began having seizures at the age of 14. She is 17 now and they are much better. We have taken the med free route recently as the meds made her "not herself", and caused more seizures. She loses her memory and that is perhaps the worst part of it all for her. She has lost most of the mornings events if she has a seizure at noon.

What you will find here, is everyone has had a situation that has caused them frustration, humiliation, sadness, anger, physical trauma, .... you name it. You are not alone, so talking about it is helpful. We might even give you something good to read that will improve your situation. Give it a try.

Hope to hear from you when you wake up.
