Helo everyone i'm so pleased to have come across this site. I have a history of epileptic seizures that were diagnosed by doctor but not treated with meds. The seizures changed whereby I was having blackouts and talking in tongues. Would not recall the blackouts was told about them by friends but I felt really physically ill after a blackout which could last for days. In time this changed to disossociative disorder. Recently this got worse and over the years I have lost all ability to absorb external information. Its like apart of my brain is totally switched off and I go in and out of fugue states. PNED seems to explain most of the symptoms. If anyone has got PNED or epilepsy can you please tell me if you have lost the ability to remember or learn especially via reading and absorbing information?

thanks all would love to hear from someone....Iasina xx

I know that when I have a sez I will black out and won't know that I have had it until someone has told me. Alot of times too I won't be talking right. The things that I say won't make any sense to the person that I am talking to but it will make perferct sense to me.

When i first started having sezs my memory was horrible, espically after I had the sez. I would forget things that happened that day. I still do it now but it's not as bad. I forget things that may have happened a month or more. I am constantly telling friends and family the same stories over and over again, luckily they have learned to deal with it and just let me tell it again.

When I first was diagnosed with epilepsy (about 8 years ago) I had lost almost 10 years of memory. Pretty much everything from my senior year of high school till then was gone. The town I live in had gotten built up with a mall and I didn't even know it was there. There is somethings that are still up there.

I always laugh because when all the repeats of the tv shows come on in the summer it's like watching a whole new season for me.

It's just something that I have learned to deal with. I don't know if this helps or lets you know that you aren't the only one out there that has these problems.

Welcome iasina

I also black out for part of my seizures (though not always). The problem is that I don't realize I've partially blacked out unless I come out of it & I've walked a couple of yards farther than remembered or something like that.

Can you explain what PNED stands for?

I believe PNED = Paroxysmal Non-Epileptic Disorder.

Iasina, has your doc ruled out a seizure disorder entirely? Treatment with meds may help. Depending on which part of your brain is being affected, treatment may help restore memory function.

I search for hours yesterday for the definition of PNED and came up with nothing but thanks to Nakamova I found a great explanation here ----> CLICK ME
